Over the last few weeks, Dave and Vicky from our Ahead of the Game project had the pleasure of presenting at six Designated Safeguarding Lead network meetings across Bristol and Somerset.

We're grateful for the opportunity to highlight the work we do with young people around digital and gambling harms. The project can support the delivery of certain areas of the RSHE curriculum for students in Years 5 and above, and it's fully funded.

If you'd like us to support your educational setting, please do get in touch. Wishing all schools and colleagues the very best for the rest of the academic year.

There's something special about making music together. Our Community Engagement Guitar Group recently played their first ever gig at DET Community MOT day at Logos House, and the photos say it all. Sunshine, smiles and a crowd singing along.

For the group, it's about so much more than the performance. Members tell us that jamming together each week 'makes you feel better in yourself and gives you peace of mind', and that it puts you in a 'good mood for the rest of the day'. For many, it's the highlight of their week.

๐ŸŽค Next up, catch them live at Recovery Festival Bristol on the open mic stage later this month!

Want to pick up a guitar and join in? Everyone is welcome. Get in touch with Emily on 07777 114546 or [email protected] ๐Ÿ’™

Six of us from one of our houses hit the track this month for a go karting session and what a day it was. This was the house's monthly activity of their choosing, and everyone threw themselves into it with big smiles all round.

Huge congratulations to Jason, who took the chequered flag as our winner! ๐Ÿ† A brilliant day enjoyed by clients and staff alike.

At Ara, we provide compassionate support for people on their recovery journey, helping them build confidence, independence and a real sense of community. Activities like this are about so much more than the day out. They are about connection, choice and creating moments that matter.

๐ŸŒŸNational Volunteer Week ๐ŸŒŸ

A huge thank you to our incredible Peer Mentors: Rebecca, Lindsey, George, Charlie, Claire and George.

This week we want to recognise and thank our Peer Mentors for the time, commitment and compassion they bring to our service.

Through sharing their lived experience, offering encouragement and walking alongside others on their journey, our Peer Mentors are making a real difference every day. Their support helps build confidence, reduce isolation, inspire hope and remind people that positive change is possible.

We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved so far and grateful for the positive impact they continue to have on the lives of the people we support and the wider recovery community.

Thank you for your dedication, empathy and willingness to give back. Your contribution is valued, appreciated and truly makes a difference in providing hope and better lives. ๐Ÿ’š

What a brilliant few weeks for our Ahead of the Game team in Bristol.

We recently attended the Children and Young People's Network Meetings at the amazing new 224 Youth Zone in Hartcliffe. It was great to hear from inspirational speakers and connect with other providers supporting young people right across the city.

We even managed to sneak onto a tour of the incredible facility. Wishing everyone at 224 Youth Zone all the best for their official opening. It's going to be brilliant!

What a day! Our Recovery Sports Club Session at St Paul's Community Sports Academy was an absolute blast!

From table tennis and badminton to indoor cricket, everyone got stuck in and gave it their all. The highlight? A Clients vs Staff cricket tournament to round off the afternoon, and let's just say the clients well and truly showed the staff how it's done!

With a brilliant turnout, plenty of laughs, and a table full of tasty refreshments to keep everyone fuelled, it was exactly what recovery looks like in action: connection, fun, and community.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made the day so special.

Our Recovery Sports Club Sessions run every Friday, 3pmโ€“4pm at St Paul's Community Sports Academy, Newfoundland Rd, Bristol, BS2 9NH. They're completely free โ€” whether you want to get active or just enjoy the social side, everyone is welcome.

What a week for our Community Team in Wales! ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ

The highlight? Being part of Mental Health & Wellbeing Show at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday. It was incredible to see so many passionate organisations and individuals who work day in, day out to support people across Wales. Here's what else the team got up to ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŽ“ Bet You Can Help | Bangor University

We delivered our Bet You Can Help training to 100 medical students. This ongoing partnership isn't just about educating future healthcare professionals. It's also about engaging a highly vulnerable group. 46% of student gamblers report that gambling has negatively impacted their university experience. That's a stat we're determined to change.

๐Ÿ’ท All Wales Financial Wellbeing Forum | Money Guiders Wales Network | Money and Pensions Service

Money worries and debt are among the most prominent impacts of gambling harm. Being at this forum was about strengthening the links between money advice services, policy makers and specialist gambling support, so that people get the joined-up help they need.

๐ŸŽฎ Ahead of the Game | Garth Primary School

We brought our Ahead of the Game programme to Year 5 and 6 pupils, introducing them to gambling-related harm and the links to online gaming. Prevention starts with education, and the earlier we start those conversations, the better.

We've been working with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Kate Powell and Rhiain Lewis (Senior Nurse for Education) to deliver gambling awareness workshops to those supporting people with mental health related issues.

Throughout May and June, we will deliver 8 workshops in community and hospital settings, raising awareness of this public health issue which is so heavily linked with people's mental health.

From the first two sessions, we have received some fantastic feedback. The staff have been incredibly engaging, recognising that gambling harms should be spoken about more frequently in their day-to-day work.

Here is some of the fantastic feedback we've received:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Excellent presentation skills and significant knowledge of the trainer."
๐Ÿ’ฌ "Thank you so much for training today. It was so helpful and informative and will definitely change my practice for the better."
๐Ÿ’ฌ "Just wanted to say thanks again for such an informative workshop. It was very personal to me and has helped me gain a lot of insight."
๐Ÿ’ฌ "I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the session today. I know it's never easy delivering online, especially to the large crowd today, but you were fantastic!"

Another member of staff also messaged and said how pleased she was that staff were engaging, and how she felt the training was so well suited.
