WECIL (West of England Centre for Inclusive Living) WECIL is a charity run by and for disabled people. We support over 4,000 people in Bristol & the surrounding area every year.

WECIL is a disabled people's user-led organisation (DPULO). We run a range of services which can support disabled people through different areas or at different times of their lives. Services include:

WECIL is recruiting an Independent Living Payments Advisor to work with Disabled adults and families who receive Direct Payments and Personal Health Budgets.

£30,415-£34,412 | 37.5 hours | Permanent | Flexible home and office working, with some home visits

We're looking for someone who is motivated and passionate, with excellent business administration skills and a strong desire to make a difference to people's lives. Experience working in Social Care is an advantage, but not essential.

WECIL announced as Climate & Disability programme partner! 🌍 Disabled people are one of the groups that will be hurt most by climate change and the loss of nature, but they have historically been left out of action and planning.

This has not only led to climate work making new barriers for Disabled people but has meant the climate movement has missed out on the expertise and ideas that Disabled people can bring.

Starting in October 2026, WECIL will work with Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership to deliver the next phase of the Climate & Disability programme, creating focused opportunities for Disabled people across the West of England to help shape community-led climate and nature action.

Broadmead bus changes! We are sharing an important update from Bristol City Council ahead of significant changes to Bristol’s bus services this Sunday.

What is happening?

On 30 August, 26 separate bus services passing through Broadmead will change, with many routes changing in both directions. This is part of a wider project to remove most traffic from Union Street, Horsefair and Penn Street in preparation for thousands of new homes, new shops and leisure facilities in the area.

What is Bristol City Council doing to prepare for these changes?

You may have seen this story in the news or posters on bus stops and streets across the city. From 25 August, teams of travel advisors will be on the streets giving out free bus tickets and helping passengers find their buses. This will run through the day, every day, until 12 September.

Have your say on proposed changes to pay discrimination protections. The UK Government has launched a consultation on Equal Pay and Pay Discrimination, including proposals affecting Disabled people.

The consultation is seeking views on how gaps and inconsistencies in the current framework affecting Disabled people could be addressed, alongside wider reforms intended to prevent pay discrimination and make disputes easier to resolve.

Disabled people, Disabled Peoples Organisations (DPOs) and others interested in or affected by these issues can respond to the consultation.

The consultation closes at 5pm on Tuesday 27 October 2026.

Have you had experience of the PIP process?

Disabled people and people with long-term health conditions are being invited to register their interest in workshops helping to shape the emerging recommendations of the Timms Review of Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

Taking place during September and October, there will be a mixture of in-person and online workshops. The nearest in-person sessions to our region will be in Birmingham and Cardiff, with online sessions also available across England and Wales.

Expressions of interest close at 5pm on Friday 21 August 2026.

For transparency, members of WECIL’s Disability. Inc. team will support accessibility and inclusive participation by co-facilitating some of these workshops. Their role is to facilitate discussion, not to contribute feedback. WECIL is not a member of the Steering Group and has no role in deciding the Review’s recommendations or outcomes.

Could you make a difference in the life of a Disabled child or young person? Time2Share@WECIL is looking for volunteers aged 18+ to spend 2–3 hours a week supporting a Disabled child or young person across Bristol and Bath & North East Somerset.

Our Befriending Service links volunteers one-to-one with a Disabled child or young person, based on shared interests and activities they can enjoy together, either at home or out in the community.

You do not need previous experience working with Disabled children or young people to become a befriender. We are looking for people who are committed, reliable and fun.

Wednesday 5 August | 12:30pm to 1:30pm | Meet at Cumberland Piazza, Hotwell Road, Bristol (BS8 4UB)

This is an opportunity to learn more about the proposed flood defence improvements, explore the area with the project team, and share your views on how the riverside can become more accessible, inclusive and welcoming in the future.

The walk is approximately 0.5 miles, and the organisers have provided detailed accessibility information to help people decide whether the walk is suitable for them.

This is a newly created role and an exciting opportunity to lead the development of WECIL's finance team. As Head of Finance, you will provide strategic financial leadership, strengthen systems and processes, and deliver the insight that supports effective decision-making across the organisation.

Working closely with Trustees and senior leaders, you will help ensure WECIL remains financially sustainable as we continue to challenge barriers to independent living and support Disabled people to thrive.

We are looking for an experienced finance leader with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach. Above all, you will share WECIL's commitment to inclusion, empowerment and the Social Model of Disability, and be motivated by the opportunity to use your expertise to make a meaningful difference.
