We see in a lot of our work, families with a great support network, but a support network that they are concerned about burdening with their worries, often for fear that it will make their situation harder. Having the safe space to talk to a professional can give families the empathy they need without that concern, so if you feel like someone in your life could do with a chat, but isn't comfortable having that chat with you, maybe they'd be happy for you to refer them into a professional?

Today is the start of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Mental health is something we will always talk about at Home-Start, it's something we will always strive to help with.

This week can be a reminder that mental health can affect anyone, especially parents feeling the strain of everyday life. But we know that small actions add up.

Small moments of kindness add up and create change. Sometimes it's as simple as a volunteer sitting with you chatting over a cup of tea. It's a gentle nudge to make it out of the house for the first time in weeks, or months. It's a warm welcome at a group, someone greeting you with a smile and taking you inside.

If you need support, find and contact your local Home-Start here: https://www.home-start.org.uk/find-your-nearest-home-start
