As we age, it's natural for changes to occur in both the face and neck. Understanding where these changes are most noticeable can help determine whether a neck lift, facelift or combination of both may be the most appropriate option.

A neck lift is designed to address concerns affecting the neck and jawline, such as loose skin, visible neck bands, fullness beneath the chin and reduced definition.

A facelift focuses on the lower face, helping to address concerns such as jowls, sagging tissues, loss of facial definition and deeper folds around the nose and mouth.

For many patients, the signs of ageing affect both the face and neck. In these cases, combining the procedures may achieve a more balanced and harmonious result.

The most appropriate treatment will always depend on your individual anatomy, concerns and goals. During your consultation, your surgeon will carry out a detailed assessment, discuss your priorities and recommend a personalised treatment plan tailored to you.

“The care and support of the surgical team and aftercare was excellent. I am now able to carry out everyday tasks with no problems.”

This patient underwent Dupuytren’s correction to both hands with Miss Jurga Pikturnaite, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and specialist hand surgeon.

Dupuytren’s disease affects the tissue beneath the skin of the palm and can gradually cause one or more fingers to bend towards the hand. As the condition progresses, everyday activities such as washing, dressing, gripping objects or placing the hand flat can become increasingly difficult.

Miss Pikturnaite performs more than 200 hand procedures each year, treating conditions including Dupuytren’s disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger and ganglion cysts.

Treatment for Dupuytren’s contracture is tailored to the individual, with the aim of improving finger position, restoring useful movement and making day-to-day activities easier.

We are delighted to hear that this patient felt well supported throughout their care and is now able to carry out everyday tasks without difficulty.

Results and recovery vary between patients, and the most appropriate treatment will depend on the severity of the condition and the individual’s needs.

Swelling and bruising are a natural part of healing after many plastic surgery procedures, but they change throughout the recovery process.
Day 1: Swelling begins and bruising may start to appear.

Days 2–5: Swelling often reaches its peak, while bruising can become more noticeable before it starts to improve.

Weeks 2–6: Bruising usually fades by week 3 and most swelling gradually settles, allowing your results to become clearer.

Several months later: Although you may feel recovered much sooner, subtle swelling can continue to improve, and your final result develops gradually over time.

Every patient's recovery is unique, and the timeline will vary depending on the procedure performed and individual healing. Following your surgeon's advice and attending your follow-up appointments are important parts of achieving the best possible outcome.

If you have any questions during your recovery, don't hesitate to contact your surgical team.

Emendo Surgical Group's Mr Shaheel Chummun is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with the South West NHS Cleft Service, where he works as part of a multidisciplinary team caring for children, young people and adults born with a cleft lip and/or palate.

Recently, the team welcomed members of the Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA) to the clinic, providing an opportunity to showcase the collaborative care delivered across the service and the ongoing support available to patients and their families.

The visit highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together plastic surgeons, speech and language therapists, psychologists, specialist nurses, orthodontists and many other healthcare professionals to provide personalised care throughout every stage of a patient's journey.

We're grateful to CLAPA for visiting and for the invaluable work they do in supporting individuals and families affected by cleft lip and palate, while helping raise awareness of the specialist care available across the UK.

To learn more about CLAPA and the support they provide, visit www.clapa.com.

This patient is shown 6 months after breast reduction surgery performed by Miss Jurga Pikturnaite.

Breast reduction surgery is about much more than reducing breast size. For many patients, it can help improve comfort, restore proportion and make everyday activities, such as exercising, finding well-fitting clothing and moving more comfortably, much easier.

Every procedure is carefully planned around the individual, taking into account their anatomy, symptoms and personal goals. The aim is to achieve a result that feels balanced, natural and appropriate for each patient.

If you are considering breast reduction surgery and would like to understand your options, we would be pleased to arrange a consultation.

Choosing to have surgery is a significant decision. The care you receive throughout that journey matters just as much as the procedure itself.

At Emendo Surgical Group, your journey starts with a consultation focused on understanding your concerns, answering your questions and exploring whether surgery is the right option for you.

If surgery is appropriate, you’ll receive a personalised treatment plan, a complimentary second consultation and a 14-day cooling-off period, giving you time to reflect before making your decision.

Should you choose to proceed, your surgery will take place in one of our CQC-registered private hospitals and will be performed by a plastic surgeon who is on the GMC specialist register for plastic surgery, followed by personalised aftercare and regular review appointments to support your recovery.

Our aim is simple: to provide expert surgical care with honesty, compassion and support at every stage of your journey.

Not everyone considering breast enhancement wants implants.
For some patients, fat transfer breast augmentation may be a more suitable and natural alternative.

The procedure involves removing fat from another area of the body, such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs, using liposuction. The fat is then carefully processed before being transferred to the breasts to create a modest increase in volume and improve shape using your own natural tissue.

Fat transfer is best suited to patients looking for subtle, natural-looking enhancement rather than a significant increase in breast size. It can also help improve breast symmetry and contour in carefully selected patients.

Not everyone is a suitable candidate, which is why a thorough consultation is essential. Emendo Surgical Group will discuss your goals, assess your anatomy and explain whether fat transfer or breast implants are the most appropriate option for you.

3 reasons your nose is constantly blocked.

If you're regularly struggling to breathe through your nose, the cause may be more than allergies or a lingering cold.

Some of the most common structural causes include:

• A deviated septum – where the wall separating the nostrils is off-centre, restricting airflow.

• A previous injury – even an old injury can change the structure of the nose and affect breathing years later.

• Structural changes inside the nose – these can narrow the nasal airway and contribute to long-term blockage.

The first step is an accurate diagnosis. Following a thorough assessment, Mr Shaheel Chummun will identify the underlying cause of your symptoms and discuss the most appropriate treatment options. For some patients, this may include functional septorhinoplasty to improve breathing while also addressing the appearance of the nose where appropriate.

Mr Chummun is a specialist rhinoplasty surgeon who performs a high volume of rhinoplasty and functional septorhinoplasty procedures each year. His expertise combines functional and aesthetic principles, helping patients breathe more comfortably while achieving balanced, natural-looking results.

Are SPFs safe to use?

Yes. SPFs approved for use in the UK are considered safe when used as directed.

As with any skincare product, some people may experience irritation or sensitivity. If this happens, choosing a different formulation, or one designed for sensitive skin, may help.

For most people, the benefits of daily SPF use far outweigh the risks. SPF helps protect the skin from UV-related damage, including sunburn, premature skin ageing and damage that can increase the risk of skin cancer over time.

No sunscreen blocks 100% of UV rays, SPF should be used alongside other sun-safe habits, including seeking shade between 11AM - 3PM, wearing protective clothing, sun hat and reapplying SPF regularly. The sun screen should be of at least SPF30 and ideally of SPF50 to be effective.

If you notice a new or changing mole, lump or skin lesion, it is important to seek professional assessment.
