🌤️ Your Bank Holiday Movement Menu💙

The Bank Holiday weekend is here — and movement doesn’t have to mean a gym session or a long walk!

This weekend, why not choose the kind of movement that suits YOU? 👇

☕ The gentle option: A relaxed stroll and a cuppa with a friend.

🌳 The outdoors option: A wander around your favourite Bristol park.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The social option: A gentle walk with family or friends.

🛋️ The recovery option:Had a busy day? Some gentle stretches and putting your feet up count too!

There’s no “right” way to move. The most important thing is finding something you enjoy, starting at a comfortable pace and listening to your body.

💙 Bristol Physio tip: If you’re trying to become more active, build things up gradually. And if pain is stopping you from doing the things you enjoy, don’t just push through it — get it checked.

When should you see a physio? 👇

You don’t always have to “push through” pain and hope it disappears.

If pain is:
• Preventing you from doing your normal activities
• Changing how you train, work or move
• Persistent despite changing what triggered it
• Something you’re concerned about or unsure how to manage

…it’s worth getting it assessed.

A physiotherapist can help identify what may be contributing to your symptoms and guide you towards appropriate management.

Trust your gut feeling — if something doesn’t feel right, get it checked.

🚶‍♀️BRISTOL BINGO!💙

Fancy getting a little more movement into your week?

We’ve put together a Bristol Walking Bingo to help you get out, explore the city and enjoy some gentle movement along the way.

From a stroll along the harbourside 🌊 to a walk around your local park 🌳 or simply heading out for your favourite coffee ☕️ — there are plenty of ways to get moving.

🎯 Your challenge: How many can you tick off this week?

And remember, movement doesn’t have to be intense to be beneficial. Start where you’re comfortable, take your time and choose activities that work for you.

💙 Bristol Physio tip: If you’re increasing your walking, build up gradually and listen to your body. If you’re experiencing persistent pain or discomfort, our team can help.

Save this post, pick your squares and get walking!

Which one are you ticking off first? 👇

⏱️ A 60-second mobility check you can do at home

How well does your body move today?

Try this quick check:

✅ 1. Squat test (20 seconds)
Can you lower into a comfortable squat while keeping your heels on the floor?

✅ 2. Shoulder reach (20 seconds)
Can you reach one hand over your shoulder and the other behind your back and comfortably bring them close together?

✅ 3. Balance test (20 seconds)
Can you stand on one leg without wobbling or needing support?

These simple movements give you an idea of your mobility, balance, and control — but remember, everyone’s movement is different.

If you notice pain, restriction, or a change in your normal movement, it may be worth getting it assessed.

If you've seen athletes on social media covered in dark purple circles, you might think dry cupping has to be intense, heavy, or leave you looking like a dartboard.

At Bristol Physio, we do things a bit differently. We treat cupping as a modern, non-invasive extension of our expert soft tissue work and it is completely customisable to how you feel.

There are actually two ways Charlotte and our massage team use this therapy to get you moving better:

Static Cupping: The cups are placed on specific tight knots and left in place to create a vacuum. This pulls underlying tissue upwards, drastically increasing localised blood flow and speeding up muscle recovery. (Yes, this is the one that leaves temporary circular marks!).

Sliding/Dynamic Cupping: We apply specialized massage cream and gently slide the cups across your skin. This acts like a "reverse massage"—instead of pushing down on tight fascia, it lifts it up and stretches it out. This method rarely leaves those round marks and is incredible for releasing stubborn neck and back tension.

What to expect at our Bristol clinics:

We always combine dry cupping seamlessly with targeted sports or holistic massage. It shouldn’t be painful. If a sensation feels too strong, we simply adjust the vacuum pump for a lighter suction or shift back to traditional hands-on massage.

Whether you are looking to recover from a tough training session, shake off desk-bound posture stiffness, or increase your range of motion, we adapt the treatment entirely to your goals.

Appointments are available throughout the week including late evenings across our Clifton and Long Ashton locations.

Loved making memories with the kids over the long weekend… but feeling it in your neck and back today? 👀

Carrying little ones, long walks, awkward lifting, and hours on your feet — especially up places like Robinswood Hill — can put extra strain on your muscles and joints.

If you’re dealing with stiffness, tension, or aching after the bank holiday, we’re here to help restore movement, ease discomfort, and get you feeling like yourself again.
