Our Charterhouse Care Home residents recently welcomed a truly special visit from The Remember Me Project, led by visiting writer Liz Ferguson, bringing to life the personal stories of those who lived through World War One and World War Two.

Liz’s passion and warmth shone through as she guided residents through a remarkable collection of genuine artefacts, each one beautifully presented and accompanied by moving stories of those who fought, worked, and kept life going on the home front.

This was an afternoon that will stay with everyone who was there. Sharing stories and finding connection is at the heart of everything we do at St Monica Trust. ❤️

Supporting the lives of older people has been part of the vision of St Monica Trust since it began over 100 years ago.

Our aim is to empower older people to live independently in their own communities for as long as possible. We do this through our Individual Giving Fund.

The feedback we receive from the recipients of these grants and their support workers demonstrates the importance of this work and the impact it can have on individuals' lives.

Anna Smolin, a visiting and befriending volunteer at Westbury Fields retirement village, shares why she would encourage anyone thinking about it to get involved:

“It’s really grounding and gives you a sense of connection and perspective. You don’t need to be perfect or have loads of time, just showing up already means a lot.”

Volunteers are at the very heart of the St Monica Trust community. They give so much of themselves, and we truly couldn’t do what we do without them. From one-one support to leading group activities, our volunteers enrich our residents’ lives every single day.

Imi Coley, Village Engagement Co-ordinator at The Chocolate Quarter, puts it perfectly:

“The friendships that visiting volunteers build are incredibly special. They often support residents who may feel lonely, helping them gain the confidence to go out for a coffee or attend events. Over time, these relationships grow into meaningful and heartfelt friendships. Our volunteers genuinely care and want to help residents lead fulfilling and enjoyable lives.”
