Excited to be co-presenting an experiential workshop "Using art and nature-based activities to facilitate conversations on what makes a safe space to support mental health" at the South West Co-Production in Health Research Conference 2026. We'll be making sensory safety boxes a bit like mine below.
The theme for this year's conference is is Making Research Matter - Trauma-informed ways of working together and it looks like it will be a very interesting day. More info and tickets here: https://swcoproductionconference.blogs.bristol.ac.uk/

🤓🎨 Over the last couple of years I have built up a private art therapy practice working mostly with neurodivergent people. I have found art therapy can be a really supportive space to explore neurodivergent identities for people of all ages and a safe space for young people experiencing school distress. As an neurodivergent art therapist, I have an understanding that comes from lived experience as well as professional experience and training.
My private practice days are Monday and Thursday and I have a few slots available starting in September. I am happy to arrange a free 20 minute introductory video or phone call. More info about art therapy and me here: www.thymearttherapy.co.uk 🎨🤓

I made this artwork to use in my studio to help explain how I understand neurodivergent overwhelm. It's my AuDHD take on the 'anger iceberg'. In my experience overwhelm can show up as rage or a meltdown. In other people it might be more of a shutdown/freeze response.

On the surface of things (the tip of the iceberg) it might not be very obvious to ourselves or others what is triggering this, but there is always so much under the surface. I have labelled some of those things that often impact us more than neurotypical people.

We might not all experience these all of the time and of course neurotypical people often have a lot of these things to deal with too. What am I missing, what adds to your overwhelm?

It's a lovely time of year to use the Bedminster Quaker Meeting House as a venue. We were able to use the beautiful woodland area (first photo) during our monthly art & wellbeing group for late-identified neurodivergent adults this week. And check out the amazing clematis out the front! Our posters are up.... Really looking forward to running our nature-based art therapy group for late-identified neurodivergent adults there in May. Please check ture-and-nurture.org/what-s-on/ for more details of what we have on!
