Mothers for Mothers

Mothers for Mothers Please do reach out to us if you are in need of support. We offer support and advice through our helpline, counselling sessions and drop-in groups.

We are a Bristol-based charity offering peer support to mothers experiencing isolation, anxiety, depression during pregnancy or after the birth of one or more of their babies. We are a group of mothers, most of who have suffered postnatal depression or distress after the birth of one or more of our babies. Huge congratulations to our wonderful supporter Emma Louise James BCAc who has won a People’s Honours British Citizen Award.

Emma received her award at the Palace of Westminster last week with her nomination being read by Matt Allright.

Emma has written many books, one of which is Jo’s Hidden Secrets which talks about her experience of domestic abuse and mental health challenges.

Emma uses her experience as a catalyst to raise awareness and funds for many charities and we are thrilled to see her recognised in this way.

Congratulations Emma!

We've been asked to share the following. If you would like to be involved please get in touch with Emma, the researcher direct.

Emma is doing a study exploring the ways that different women experience, talk about and understand their poor perinatal mental health experiences. She wants to try and identify how and if this has been helpful in their recovery to better understand perinatal mental health.

More information in on the image below and if you would like to be involved Emma can be contacted at [email protected]

Perinatal VCSEs in West Midlands, South West, Yorkshire and Humber who are led by and for racialised communities, take a look at the opportunity for a perinatal Mental Health Grant of £10,000-£15,000.

Every day, community organisations help women, birthing people and families through pregnancy and the first years of parenthood.

That support might look like peer support, family activities, practical help, advocacy, community groups or faith-based support. Whatever you call it, it helps people feel connected, supported and part of their community.

The Perinatal Mental Health Grants Pilot is here to support organisations already doing this important work.

If you support racialised communities in the English regions of West Midlands, South West or Yorkshire and Humber, you could register for £10,000–£15,000.

📍 Total funding available: £250,000

More than a grant
✔ Flexible funding
✔ Shared learning
✔ Influence future funding
✔ Help shape more equitable approaches to tackling health inequalities

Part of the NHS Race & Health Observatory Community Grant Programme Pilot, commissioned by the NHS Race & Health Observatory and delivered by Foundation for Future London.

🗓️ Register your interest by Friday 31 July 2026 (midnight).
