A morning in the life of a Care Assistant 💙

No two calls are ever exactly the same, but every visit has one thing in common - making sure our clients feel supported, comfortable and cared for.

From helping someone start their day, supporting with personal care, preparing breakfast, encouraging fluids, prompting medication, tidying up, catching up and making sure everything is in place before leaving… there’s so much more to care than people realise.

It’s the little things that make the biggest difference - a fresh cup of tea, a clean kitchen, a friendly chat, or simply helping someone feel ready for the day ahead.

And once the morning calls are done?
Time to put your feet up… until the next one! ☕️

This is basically our carers and support workers every single day.

Using their patience when things are stressful, their humour when someone needs cheering up, their calm head when plans go sideways, and their kindness in about 100 tiny ways that most people never even see.

Care and support work isn’t just “doing tasks” it’s thinking on your feet, adapting, reassuring, encouraging, and somehow still making someone smile while you’re at it.

So today’s little reminder: use one of your strengths.
Our team does it daily 💙

Domiciliary Care: Helping People Stay Safe and Independent at Home

When people start to need a little extra support, the first thought can be, “Does this mean they need to move into a care home?”

But that is not always the case.

For many people, staying at home is where they feel happiest, safest and comfortable. Home is familiar. It is where their memories are, routines are, and where life still feels like theirs.

That is where domiciliary care can make a huge difference.

Domiciliary care, also known as home care, is support provided to someone in their own home. This could be a morning visit to help someone get washed and dressed, or regular visits to support with medication, meals, personal care, mobility, appointments, or simply checking in.

The point of home care is not to take over someone’s life. It is to support them to keep living it.

Everyone is different, so care at home should never feel like a “one size fits all” service. Some people have routines they have followed for years. Some need encouragement, reassurance, or just a helping hand.

Good care is about knowing the person, not just the task.

It is remembering how someone likes their tea. It is noticing when they are quieter than usual. It is taking the time to have a chat, even on a busy day. It is treating someone with dignity and kindness in their own home.

Domiciliary care can support with washing and dressing, medication prompts, meals, light housework, shopping, appointments, mobility support and companionship. But it is also more than a list of jobs.

For some people, a care visit may be one of the only times they see someone that day. That friendly face at the door can mean the world. A conversation, a laugh, or someone asking, “How are you today?” can make such a difference.

It also brings reassurance to families. When you are worried about a loved one, it can be hard to switch off. Having trusted care staff visiting regularly can bring peace of mind and helps make sure changes are noticed.

At the heart of domiciliary care is independence. It is about helping people do what they can, supporting them with what they find difficult, and making sure they still feel in control.

We know you’ve probably heard it a million times… BUT the heatwave is coming, and keeping cool is so important! ☀️

This is your reminder to look after yourself, whether you’re one of our amazing staff out and about in the community, or one of our lovely clients at home.

Please remember to:
💧 Drink plenty of water
🪟 Keep rooms as cool as possible
👒 Stay out of the direct sun where you can
🧴 Wear sun cream if you’re heading outside
🧊 Take breaks and don’t overdo it

Most importantly, check in on each other. A quick call, visit or reminder to have a drink can make such a difference.

Stay safe, stay cool and look after yourselves 💙

She consistently shows kindness, compassion and genuine care in everything she does, and it’s clear she is a real asset to the team and a credit to the branch.

Thank you, Nicole, for all your hard work and the positive impact you’ve already made 💙
