Alex and Joe met at art college and were best friends before becoming partners. Over 15 years later, Alex and Joe were hoping to start a family of their own. ❤️
Their fertility journey began with the excitement of discovering they were pregnant in July 2022! Sadly, Alex experienced an early miscarriage, leaving them heartbroken.
They kept trying. And trying. And trying. After more than three years, tests and a lot of waiting, they were eligible for one NHS-funded round of IVF or ICSI. One opportunity to try for the family they had been hoping for.
Choosing the right clinic was a huge decision. They chose BCRM for ICSI because it felt like home to them.
“IVF is such a gruelling process, both physically and emotionally, so having kind and caring experts around us who we trusted and felt supported by meant everything.”
After egg collection, they stopped at their favourite local café. As Alex drank her decaf coffee, one word was printed inside the cup:
“Accomplished.” ☕
Then, turning into their street, they saw a rainbow. 🌈 Sometimes, moments can carry so much meaning.
Five days between egg collection and transfer felt like five years. Then came the call: four eggs had been retrieved, two blastocysts had reached day five, and one was transferred, with two frozen.
Ten more days of waiting followed. Alex had prepared herself for the one line she knew all too well.
But this time, there were two. Two little lines again. ❤️ Then came the seven-week scan. And there it was. Their little rainbow. 🌈
Fertility treatment isn't simply appointments and procedures. It can involve grief, hope, uncertainty and huge emotional strength.
For Alex and Joe, it became a journey of patience, teamwork and discovering their strength together as a team.
“We’re not going to pretend the journey was easy, because it wasn’t. But we wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Because their journey ultimately gave them something incredibly precious: their rainbow boy, Freddie. 💙
Thank you, Alex and Joe, for sharing your story. We hope it offers a little hope to anyone on their own fertility journey.
