✨ A little behind the scenes from our July Hypnobirthing course. ✨

Four weeks of learning, laughing, asking questions, practising, sharing stories, and building confidence together.

One of my favourite things about teaching Hypnobirthing is getting to know the parents to be, and helping them slowly make space for understanding, excitement, and confidence in birth.
Birth isn't something we can completely control, but we can prepare, understand our options, and learn tools that help us feel calmer, more informed and more confident, whatever path birth takes.

Thank you to this wonderful group for trusting me to be part of your journey. I can't wait to hear your birth stories in the weeks and months ahead.

If you're expecting a baby this autumn or winter, my next course is live, Mondays in September. I'd love to welcome you!

Hello, I thought with some new followers, I'd do a little intro post!
I'm Harriet- an NHS midwife, Hypnobirthing instructor, pregnancy yoga teacher and mum, passionate about helping women feel informed, supported and confident as they prepare to welcome their babies.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week 🥳

To the mums and their support system helping them through the ups and downs, the NICU, premmie and multiple mum's who are doing the most extra amazing work! To the staff tirelessly trying to support feeding in impossible staffing conditions, with not enough time for everyone.

There's so much I could say about this topic, about why we even need a 'special week's to spotlight and celebrate breastfeeding, about how little support there is, about how strange society can be when it comes to BF, but I'll try and shush!

I've always been so passionate about supporting breastfeeding, it's been one of my fave parts of my job, especially when there are issues. Antenatal preparation and understanding of breastfeeding is something I love to share too, so that there's less surprises once feeding is underway.

Personally, I've exclusively boobed my daughter for nearly 3 years, and it's been the most wonderful, exhausting, rewarding and instinctive thing I've done. Feeding a toddler (a strong willed one at that) is a different bag to feeding a baby, and at times I don't enjoy all the feeds, (twiddles and feet to the face aren't very restful!) But feeding her through illness, to sleep each night, through tears and laughter will always be something I'm so glad I have done.

This week celebrates breastfeeding, but my hope is that every family feels supported, informed and empowered to make the choices that are right for them, without judgement. I appreciate and have seen first hand how much this topic can stir up within us, and I'm sorry if you're feeding journey has been or is challenging, sending love to you.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week, and in the words of my daughter, here's to BO***ES! 😂

~ Press play - Relax, Connect, Prepare ~

Pregnancy can be noisy, advice and opinion come from every direction. Social media tells you what you should be doing and buying.
Birth stories, opinions, checklists and "just wait until..." comments can quickly leave you feeling overwhelmed. I remember feeling most overwhelming towards the end of pregnancy, when I desperately wanted to find calm.

I created this relaxation bundle to offer something different.
A chance to step away from the noise.
A space to breathe, find calm, reconnect with yourself and your baby, and prepare for birth in a way that feels gentle and supportive from the comfort of your own home.

These are the same style of evidence-informed relaxations I use in my pregnancy yoga and hypnobirthing sessions, designed to help calm your nervous system, reduce anxiety and create moments of rest in the middle of busy days.

Because birth preparation isn't only about gathering more information. Sometimes the most powerful preparation is learning how to slow down, tune in, and trust yourself.

I hope these relaxations become a place you can return to whenever you need a little more calm, connection and confidence.

✨Available now via the link in my bio, these also make a lovely gift for any mum to be.

~ Birth affirmations ~

As a midwife, I've heard and read birth affirmations many many times, and have learnt along the way that for them to be most effective, they need to speak to YOU.

As part of my birth prepartion, I started popping affirmations up around the house, on my phone wallpaper and particularly chose ones that meant the most to my journey, and what I hoped for birth.
I also focused on anything I was holding anxiety around, for me that was Juno's position and when she would come (I knew instinctively this gal was not coming 'on time!')

To add a layer of oxytocin and love into these affirmations, I asked friends and family at my mother-blessing to write some for me, and I had them hanging up in my birth space.

Knowing they had chosen these for me, gave me a boost from my sisterhood when I needed it. My fave was my sister's "when you think you can't, know you can" which helped at the height of transition immensely.

I focused my affirmations on power, positivity, and celebrating my body. After having had poor body confidence for decades, followed by a disconnect and disappointment in it during TTC and IVF, pregnancy and birth for me was a right of passage.
It was a coming home to myself, and a celebration of what my amazing body COULD do.

Experiencing the power my body made was incredible, and when the waves finally started rolling in, I welcomed them with open arms.
My practice with affirmations had helped me look forward to labour, and work with it.

P.S. this is a very personal experience and anecdote of my own labour, and we all have our own stories we carry into labour and beyond. There's no right or wrong, I'm just sharing what I found to be helpful.

❓What affirmations did you love for labour or plan to use?

🤰🏼If you're curious about birth affirmations, why not download my new Pregnancy Relaxation Bundle via the link in my bio, to listen to some affirmations, relaxations and birth visualisations.

~ Building birth confidence ~

If you've recognised yourself in any of these signs, please know you're not alone. Feeling uncertain, worried or overwhelmed about birth is incredibly common, and it doesn't mean you're not going to have a positive birth experience. Even the most confident and excited mothers I have known, had worries and wobbles along the way.

If you're feeling anxious or avoidant whenever you think about the day you birth, it doesn't mean that you will never feel more confident! That's the great thing about confidence, we can develop it just like we do with any other life skill or event.

If you're looking for a simple place to start, I've created a bundle of guided pregnancy relaxation tracks designed to help you slow down, practise calming techniques and feel more connected to your body and your baby.

Changing how you feel about birth doesn't have to happen all at once, but baby steps can feel reassuring and confidence boosting.

You can find the relaxations via the link in my bio, for yourself or as a gift.

Which of these signs resonated with you the most?

6 months of Pembrokeshire

Just over six months ago we made the big move to this beautiful corner of Wales, and it’s hard to believe how quickly that time has gone.

Starting something new in a new place always feels a little daunting, but I’ve been so grateful for the welcome I’ve received and the wonderful people I’ve met along the way. We often say we've never met more friendly and welcoming people anywhere on our travels.

From my pregnancy yoga classes and birth workshops to my first hypnobirthing course, to the lovely families I’ve supported 1:1 and those of you working with me online from this little corner of Wales - thank you to everyone who has trusted me to be part of such an important time in your lives 🤗

It’s been so special to bring together my experience as a midwife, pregnancy yoga teacher and hypnobirthing practitioner here in Pembrokeshire, and I’m so excited for what’s to come.

Thank you for welcoming me, supporting my little business, and helping me feel at home here. Relocating my business after 10+ years in Bristol hasn't been easy, but I feel so sure beautiful things are ahead.

We've fallen in love with this beautiful place, and all it has to offer (gorgeous swim after swim!)

Thank you, thank you, thank you

Here’s to the future ✨🤞🏻🥲

Hypnobirthing has sometimes been portrayed as the key to a calm, pain-free, intervention-free birth. While that can happen for some, it's not a promise—and I believe it is doing parents a disservice to suggest this.

My philosophy is different.

I believe knowledge reduces fear.
Understanding your body builds confidence.
Learning practical tools can help you stay calmer, work with your body, and make decisions that feel right for you.

Birth can be intense. It can be unpredictable, it can ask you to adapt.
Calm doesn't have to look like the absence of intensity, it's the ability to return to your body, your breath and your confidence.

Preparing you for that isn't being negative. Having supported hundreds of births, (plus experienced my own) I believe it's being realistic.

For me, hypnobirthing isn't about achieving a particular type of birth, which is why I work with lots of parents already 'high risk'.

It's about helping you walk into labour feeling informed, supported, and believing in your ability to cope, whatever direction your journey takes.

Because every woman deserves to look back on her birth knowing she was listened to, respected, and empowered.

I would love to help you prepare for birth! I have limited 1-2-1 availability for August and September, either online or in Pembs, or please let me know if you'd like to join the wait-list for my next group course in early autumn.
