It’s a therapists’ tale as old as time….
💬 Minutes 0-48… backstory, the backstory’s backstory, the neighbour’s backstory…. The neighbour’s cat’s second cousin’s backstory… ‘I didn’t really have anything to bring today’
💬 2 minutes to go… *client drops huge bombshell*

😆 Fellow therapists do you relate?!

My first foray into fun reels inspired by the hilarious and her amazing course too 🎥

Could I have used a sensible headshot?
Yes.
Did I use this one of me in a party hat kissing a wild foal on the nose instead?
Also yes.

I figured it was a good visual representation of authenticity…?

The older I get, the less interested I am in trying to be everyone’s cup of tea. I know it’s absolutely uncomfortable (and i know painful, if you’re a people pleaser!) when someone doesn’t like you, doesn’t get you, or decides you’re not the right fit. But maybe that’s the price of showing up as yourself rather than the version you think everyone wants?

I’d much rather be deeply aligned with a few people who really get me, and see me, than vaguely acceptable to everyone.

So I’m curious…

Where in your life are you still editing yourself to be more acceptable?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. 💭

New colours, new confidence, same chaos: my June round up ✨

This month I had my colours analysed and went on a private personal shopping trip, and it was absolutely fantastic. Can’t recommend it enough. When i get dressed I feel more like me. Or a new version of me? Either way, I’m here - and wearing better colours. 👋 Thank you Elise | PERSONAL STYLIST 🙏

The rest of June, in no particular order:

☀️ Cornwall with the family in delightful sunshine.

🦕 Dorset seaside plus the Fossil Festival, where my son taught me everything about ammonites and Mary Anning. Being educated by your own child is genuinely one of parenting’s great joys.

🎤 I presented at my first ever summit! Over 2000 therapists registered, and I spoke at the Claire | Private Practice Mentor for Therapists Private Practice Summit about running your practice from a grounded, regulated place. Nervous system first, business plan second.

💼 Took on more psychologist business coaching clients and I adore this work. Helping people build a business around their actual strengths, find the joy in it again, and throwing ideas at them at speed (my ADHD superpower 🦸‍♀️).

📰 Popped up in The Independent talking about toxic bosses and how to spot them (thanks Katie Rosseinsky) and in Happiful on delayed gratification (thanks to Fiona Fletcher Reid). Seeing my name in print really never gets old.

🥐 And finally: Paris - so glorious. Despite visiting during a 43 degree heatwave, I got to see a lovely friend I hadn’t seen in years. Great summer vibes - it was also men’s fashion week and Pride weekend. I ate an obscene number of pastries, and at one point we went to visit a cold fog installation - obviously the thing to do in 43 degrees.

How was your June? I’d love to hear one good thing from your month.

The Claire | Private Practice Mentor for Therapists private practice summit is live this week! Day 2 is here which means my talk is now available - all up for the next 48 hours or you have an option to purchase all talks to listen to at your leisure. As a mind body specialist as well as psychologist and business coach, I’m combining these specialities to give a talk titled: Regulated Not Reactive: Running Your Practice from a Grounded Place.

(Day 2 is all about Sustainable Practice, Money & Capacity).

I’m talking about how therapists can build and run their practice in a way that feels regulated and sustainable, rather than driven by pressure, urgency, or overwhelm.

I’ll be sharing how nervous system regulation shows up in business ownership, and ending with practical ways that therapists can begin to build more grounded, regulated ways of working.
All the strategy in the world won’t help if we’re making our business decisions from fight or flight.

Comment below and I’ll personally send over the link to sign up! It’s free and I hope to see you there

Still riding the energy of last week’s Into Practice Business retreat for female mental health professionals in private practice.

One day to work on the business, not in the business. Seven therapists. Lots of big mindset shifts.

We looked at diaries and redesigned them to work in alignment with values.

We challenged over-functioning and over giving.
We stopped pretending that undercharging is ethical.
We created business models that can actually sustain a meaningful life.

Working harder isn’t the strategy; we’re done with hustle culture. We’re working mindfully and intentionally.

When I asked the attendees for feedback, here were some responses:

“Warm and emotionally safe group, knowledgable facilitation, so much inspiration”
“A great group and leader, with lots of wisdom and experience in the room.”
“A balance of personal reflection and teaching that worked really well.”

On the question - “What shifted today?” here is a snippet of replies:

✨ “Reconnecting to the values that led me to private practice.”
✨ “I’m ready to do this - I have marketable skills others don’t.”
✨ “It’s OK to focus on the business model whilst holding human values.”
✨ “I feel excited and energised about building my business instead of feeling fearful.”

Into Practice is about holding the dualities:
You can be clinically excellent and business savvy.
You can hold depth with clients alongside business structure.
You can build something powerful that works for you, without burning out.

A well structured private practice won’t just happen by default, it needs to be designed - from a place of regulated nervous system too.

If you’re ready to stop hesitating and start building intentionally, watch this space. My online offerings are coming soon, and in person retreats later in the year.

One of the strange truths of being a psychologist is that we often don’t get to know how people’s stories unfold.

We sit with uncertainty, we walk alongside people during chapters that feel tender or unfinished, and we often have to trust that the seeds planted will keep growing long after therapy ends.

Sometimes in sessions though, we’re offered a glimpse into what has shifted. And it’s a genuine privilege.

So receiving this message recently from a client at the end of our therapeutic work together was one of those moments that reminds me why I do this job. Knowing you’ve helped someone feel safer with themselves, more compassionate, more trusting of their own capacity… it’s honestly so moving. A real highlight of this work.

Some lovely words from a client I worked with this year 🥹 it reminded me what a privilege it is to be invited into someone’s inner world. I often hear stories from people they’ve never told anyone before. Therapy is such a sacred space - to witness someone’s growth, vulnerability, and courage is one of the greatest honours of this work. 🤍
