☀️ As the UK experiences another heatwave next week, Childrens Burns Trust areburging families to take extra care in the sun.

Our latest data shows that severe sunburn injuries to children increased by 46.5% in 2025 compared to 2024. These are serious burns requiring treatment in Specialist Burns Units.

While many people think of sunburn as a temporary discomfort, severe sunburn can cause significant pain, long -erm damage and, in some cases, require specialist medical care.

They are proud to be working with RoSPA to raise awareness of the risks and help families protect children from preventable burn injuries.

✔️ Seek shade during the hottest part of the day
✔️ Cover up with hats, clothing and sunglasses
✔️ Apply and regularly reapply high factor sunscreen

☀️KNOW THE SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE! ☀️

In a heatwave, it’s worth knowing the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and what to do if someone becomes unwell.

Help reduce the risk by staying hydrated, avoiding the sun between 11am and 3pm, wearing loose, light-coloured clothing, and taking it easy in the heat.

Check in on anyone who may be more vulnerable, including babies, young children, older people and those with long-term health conditions.

Please do not cover prams with muslins or blankets - it elevates the temperature inside to double the environment outside - super dangerous for all children of all ages. To add shade, please purchase a parasol to keep your children shielded from the sun ☂️

SO EXCITED that our branded emergency bleed kits have arrived from

Tourniquet training was always considered too specialised in the past for public workplace first aid courses - but NOT ANY MORE.

From October 2026, we will be teaching tourniquets & wound packing in our workplace first aid courses AS STANDARD.

Life threatening bleeds can happen anywhere. From an accident falling onto something sharp, to a car collision, to a knife crime - everyone should know what to do if someone is bleeding and pressure alone is not controlling it.

This training SAVES LIVES. 💚

Not all signs are obvious. Some are quiet, subtle and easy to miss when you’re running on little sleep and just trying to get through the day.
As parents, we’re constantly told “every child develops at their own pace”, and that’s true. But it’s also okay to notice when something feels different.
Autism can present in many ways, especially in young children, and early signs aren’t always obvious. Some things to gently look out for include:
Not responding to their name
Limited or no eye contact
Not smiling back when you smile at them
Becoming very upset by certain sounds, smells or textures
Repetitive movements like hand flapping, rocking or finger flicking
Delayed speech or talking less than other children their age
Less interest in pretend play
Repeating the same words or phrases
Seeing one or even a few of these signs doesn’t automatically mean a child is autistic, but noticing patterns over time is important.
Trust your instincts. You know your child better than anyone.
If you do have concerns, you’re never wasting anyone’s time by asking for advice. Speaking to your health visitor, GP or special educational needs (SENCO) staff at your child’s school can help you get reassurance or the right support early on.
At Mini First Aid, we’re here to give you confidence, not just in emergencies, but in understanding your child and knowing when to seek help.
You’re doing an amazing job 💚

And the winner of the “Above & Beyond Award 2026” 🏆

I honestly can’t put into words how grateful and proud I feel to have been nominated — and to win — at our annual conference 💚

Nearly 7 years ago, our son had a horrific accident in a café. At just 9 months old, he reached for a teapot and suffered scalds to over 13% of his tiny body. Seeing our baby in that much pain and distress was a living nightmare.

The guilt and shame I felt as a first-time parent were overwhelming — like being hit by a truck. I didn’t want to leave him with anyone. I became incredibly protective, replaying everything over and over, blaming myself for something that happened in a split second. It stayed with me for months.

Two years later, his recovery was more than we could have hoped for, and I found myself at a crossroads in my career. With my husband’s unwavering support, I followed a growing desire to help other parents feel prepared in an emergency. Together, we put everything into building

Over the past 4 years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful parents, grandparents, and children in schools and nurseries — as well as training workplace teams across our community.

To now be recognised for something I care so deeply about means everything. Supporting a small, non-government funded charity that does such incredible work for families and burn survivors is truly a privilege. will always hold a special place in my heart 🧡

A special thank you to Jo for presenting the award — your dedication over the years has been such an inspiration.

And thank you to every single person who has supported the charity, booked a class, or trusted me to teach you how to keep your loved ones safe. Your kind words and feedback mean more than you know.

This is the first award I’ve ever won — and without a doubt, the most meaningful one 💫
