Recent news from Hull has understandably raised concerns about the care and standards families should expect from a funeral director. We ourselves are shocked and saddened that this has happened to these families.

At James Giles and Sons Ltd, we are proud to be a National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) member and part of a community of independent funeral directors committed to professional and compassionate care.

We are regularly inspected and voluntarily regulated under the UK Funeral Director Code. Families also have access to an independent complaints process through SAIF, delivered by an externally audited and Chartered Trading Standards Institute-certified body.

We hope these safeguards offer added reassurance that families and their loved ones will be treated with care, dignity and respect.

HIRING CASUAL FUNERAL OPERATIVES

We are looking for a small team of compassionate, reliable individuals to provide support on a very casual, as-and-when-required basis.

There are no guaranteed hours, and this is not a regular part-time position. Some weeks you may not be required at all, while at other times we may need assistance at short notice, including evenings and weekends. Due to the nature of our work, requests for assistance can arise at any time, so we’re looking for people who are happy to be contacted when work becomes available.

There is no obligation to accept work if you are unavailable.

Main duties include:
• Assisting on funerals, including driving and bearing when required.

Essential requirements:
✔ Full UK driving licence.
✔ Physically fit, as the role involves lifting and manual handling.
✔ Calm, compassionate, respectful and professional.
✔ Able to respond to requests for work at short notice when available.

Please read carefully before applying.
This role is not for everyone. It is both physically and emotionally demanding, and applicants must be comfortable working closely with the deceased, sometimes in challenging or unexpected circumstances. We are looking for people who can carry out these responsibilities with dignity, compassion and professionalism while supporting families through one of the most difficult times in their lives.

While experience within the funeral profession is welcomed, it is not essential. The right attitude, resilience, empathy and willingness to learn are far more important.
