I’m not sure why but I haven’t had the urge to crochet for a while. However, I was very aware that my seasonal, crochet display at work was missing a summer scene. It was time for Lady Baa Baa and Ali Baa Baa to hibernate until next spring so I got busy making ice creams! Thanks to a book my niece gave me for Christmas I now have raspberry ripple, mint, banana, cherry and vanilla ice creams. 🍦 ☀️ 😎

As you may know, I love a cruise 🚢 Martin and I have had some great adventures, exploring amazing places over the years. We have recently returned from two weeks on Cunard’s Queen Anne in Norway and the North Cape. We visited Olden and Molde and then went up into the Arctic circle and the land of the midnight sun. We overnighted in the city of the Arctic, Tromso, before heading to Honningsvag and the North Cape. The sun didn’t set for four days and we had the most incredible weather. On the way home we called in to Trondheim, the Viking City of Norway, and beautiful Alesund. I’ve tried to capture our trip in just nineteen photos and one video. I hope you enjoy them. 🇳🇴

I turned 55 last week and what a week I’ve had! 🥳

The sun was shining on Monday, so I took my annual walk through Chaddesley woods to see the bluebells, which were glorious. 🪵

On my actual birthday, after 35 years, I decided to get back in the saddle. Huge thanks to Gemma and Anne at Stourport Riding Centre and Dizzy the horse, of course, for a wonderful morning. 🐴 This was followed by a delicious lunch at Arrow Mill with my lovely Martin and a trip to Ellenden Farm Shop for cake to enjoy with Sally. 🍰

Thursday evening my dear friend, Maria, had me round for one of her famous paella dinners and it was delicious, as always! 🥘

After work on Friday, I was whisked away for a fabulous dinner, bed and breakfast stay at Broom Hall Inn. This was just the start of a magical weekend all planned by my lovely Martin. ❤️

Saturday morning was spent wondering around Stratford upon Avon before watching the brilliant The Devil Wears Prada 2 at the Everyman Cinema. 🍿 Then it was on to Chapter 23 in Alcester for coffee and cake before a brilliantly, creative hour at The Mad Splatter 🫟.

Sunday, we headed back to Stratford for the most amazing lunch at The Woodsman. 🍽️

I am so very fortunate to have such a thoughtful, kind partner and lovely friends and family. Hugely grateful for the cards, gifts and messages. Thank you 🙏🏻 So blessed ☺️

Visited the Cutcombe Snowdrop Valley today in Somerset (not North Devon as I keep saying 🙄) The trek was an hour and a half and the rain stayed away for most of it. Nature at its best!

Facebook memories reminded me yesterday that 16 years ago I had the most unexpected phone call while chilling at home with my partner and my best friend. It was early afternoon and I’d gone back to bed for one of those twixtmas naps. I’d just started to drift off when the landline rang out. Moments later, my partner comes in to the bedroom, holding the phone with his hand over the mouthpiece, looking a little shocked. “It’s Henry Winkler” he said, “The Fonz is on the phone. He wants to speak to you.”

So, there I am, sat up in bed with my partner and best friend sat at the foot of the bed, listening in, whilst Mr Winkler and I chatted for a good ten minutes. Of course, it wasn’t some strange coincidence that the Fonz called me. I had engineered the opportunity. Although, I never really expected it to ever come to anything.

I was looking for testimonials for my book, “The Story of I Can’t” and knew that Henry Winkler was an advocate for children’s literacy, as someone who grew up with severe, undiagnosed dyslexia. Although best known as The Fonz from Happy Days by my generation, he had become well known by younger people as the creator and co-author of Hank Zipzer. His charitable work for children with special educational needs had earned him an honorary OBE, making him the ideal person to approach for his take on my little book.

It was common knowledge in the theatre world that every year Henry Winkler came to the UK to play the iconic role of Captain Hook in a pantomime production of Peter Pan. I discovered that he was going to be at the Liverpool Empire that year (2009), so I popped a copy of my book in the post. It arrived in his dressing room while he was on stage. It was a two show day and between the morning and afternoon performances he sat and opened his post. He read my book there and then and was so inspired that he picked up the phone and called me to tell me how great it was.

He very kindly said I could quote him and that moment became one of the coolest things ever to happen to me!
