🌿 New here? Let me introduce myself properly.

I'm Becks — medical herbalist, mum, forager, and the face behind Fettlewell. I help people get to the root of gut issues, burnout, and that "running on empty" feeling, using traditional herbal medicine alongside practical, everyday changes.

You'll find me here sharing the herbs growing in the hedgerows around Herefordshire, kitchen remedies you can actually make, and honest talk about healing without the overwhelm.

Clinic days, foraging walks, kids learning their weeds from their wildflowers — it's all part of the same story. Welcome to it. 💚

🌿 The plant hiding in plain sight
If you've walked past a feathery-leaved, flat-topped white flower on a verge or in a hedgerow this summer — chances are you've walked past yarrow (Achillea millefolium) without a second glance.
It's one of the most useful plants growing wild right now, and one of the first I teach people to identify. Named after Achilles (legend has it his soldiers used it to pack wounds on the battlefield), yarrow has traditionally been used to support minor cuts and grazes, and to help the body through colds and fevers.
I dry a bundle of it every summer so I've always got some in the winter cupboard — it's one of those plants that earns its place again and again.
Next time you're out on a walk, see if you can spot it 👀 Feathery leaves, flat flower clusters, usually white or soft pink.
Want the full how-to on drying, storing and using yarrow at home? That's in the Kitchen Medicine Club this month 🍯
🔻 Save this so you know what to look for next time you're out
🔻 Tag someone who needs to learn their hedgerow plants
Traditionally used for the above purposes. This is not medical advice — always consult a qualified practitioner about your individual health needs.

🌿 Meet spearmint — the gentler, sweeter cousin of peppermint, and one of the easiest cooling herbs to grow on a windowsill.

In several traditional systems of medicine, spearmint sits in the “cooling” category alongside mint, melon and cucumber — making it a lovely everyday pick-me-up when you’re feeling sluggish, overheated, or just in need of something refreshing during allergy season.

☕ Try it as a big jug of iced spearmint tea, or muddled into cold water with lemon.

Simple kitchen medicine, growing right outside your door.

Curious what herbs might suit your body and what’s going on for you right now? I offer free 15-minute calls to talk through where you’re at and whether herbal medicine could help.

Ever wondered what happens inside a Junior Herbalist Club (JHC) session? Here's a peek behind the leaves! 🍃
Each month, the club gathers around a special healing plant — and dives in deep:

🌱 Meet the Plant Kids learn to correctly identify the plant, and uncover the story behind its name (common AND botanical/Latin).

📖 History & Folklore Storytelling, songs, and funny anecdotes bring the plant's history and folklore to life.

🔬 The Science Bit Children explore the plant's medicinal qualities, its key constituents, and how it can be used — both internally and externally.

✂️ Hands-On Making Little herbalists get crafting! Sessions often include making take-home items like lavender bags, lip balms, and bath bombs.

🧑‍🏫 Led by the Experts Every session is run by a qualified Medical Herbalist, specially trained to deliver the JHC course — so kids are learning from the real deal.

✨ Along the way, they're secretly building skills in English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Botany, Latin, and Cookery — plus growing in confidence and fine motor skills, all while having fun outdoors in a safe, supervised space!

📅 Clubs meet monthly, with 10 sessions delivered across the year — ending with a certificate and badge for every young herbalist.

Suitable for children aged 7+

🌿 Hayfever hitting hard this year? Meet your new go-to: yarrow.
Just coming into flower now, yarrow clears congestion (sinuses AND mucous membranes throughout the body), helps repair irritation, and speeds healing. Pair it with elderflower + cooling peppermint for the ultimate hot-weather allergy relief.
Bonus: as an aromatic bitter, yarrow supports digestion too — often the hidden root of allergy and immune flare-ups. 🌼
