Fridays are often busy days at Penlow - today was certainly one of them! Last weekend saw all the meadow hay go to new horsey homes - there will be some happy horses come the winter! 🐴

Today we’ve cleared the long grass in our original wildflower grid - ready to welcome a new resident next week 🌸🌼🌷

Simon has been busy taming the hedge down by the path. Firstly with a tidy back of the brambles and then secondly with a slightly heavier handed approach really trimming it back. We’ve not done that for a year or two and it needs doing periodically to keep on top of it! We are now in the position (at some point in the future) - for this hedge to be traditionally laid as were the car park hedges. Watch this space on that one!

Today the Penlow family grew as we welcomed Sally to her new home 💙

After hearing about Sally and her kind nature, I wasn’t sure that even a dictionary would have had enough words to describe how lovely she was 💛

I know that a painted lady butterfly was very poignant on the day of Sallys departure, and today they were everywhere. These painted ladies in the photo were waiting in the lane, to greet everyone that came to say their goodbye 🤍🧡🖤

Today we welcomed a lady of perseverance and determination, a lady kind to all who she met 🤍

It was so lovely to hear lots of stories of Tina and her life this afternoon, in a very relaxed and informal gathering. You can arrive at Penlow in any way you would like - we are all unique and that is something that should never be forgotten.

Welcome to your new home Tina, by a sweet chestnut tree, coppiced in March and yet showing phenomenal re-growth. You can continue your cycle of life here, surrounded by the butterflies 🦋

We are currently making hay this week at Penlow. We started our day yesterday with some initial hair cuts for woodland residents but that turned into woodland hair cuts for everyone (which was not the plan!) and the main part of the field was also cut for hay - thanks to a local contractor. Thanks also to Sophia and Simon who were busy working away with us yesterday too.

This morning Tom and I finished collecting up all the woodland residents grass and added it to the main meadow area, so that it can also be made into hay.

The current appearance of our woodland
residents of course isn’t a finished look! Please bear with us while we get to finishing everyone up with the strimmer and such like. Perhaps we need to invest in some more batteries for our power tools, although the break is always welcome - especially in this heat!

If anyone is looking for small bales of hay to buy - we will have more than we need available by the end of next week! Get in touch if you do 🙂

What a scorching welcome today for a lovely lady ☀️

Today Margaret was welcomed with her family, close friends and some very apt poetry - lovingly read to her and all in attendance.

Welcome to your new home Margaret - full of butterflies and beauty 🪶 🦋

No photos today but what a delight it was this morning while preparing for the arrival of a new resident - butterflies galore and some huge dragonflies too. Moths are also everywhere and equally beautiful.

The paths are all mown and I’ve been strimming around plaques as well in the next phase of our grass cutting mission for Friday!

It’s all looking lovely….even if I do say so myself 🫣🙌🤩
