I’ve been a little quiet this week… embracing some much-needed self-care.

Dr Bruce Perry’s 6 R’s have been woven throughout my training — rhythm, ritual, reward, relationship, repetition and respect. A reminder that wellbeing often grows through the small, intentional things we do consistently.

So, I’ve been taking my own advice… slowing down, restoring, and refilling the cup a little.

And… exciting things are coming! I’ll be sharing my upcoming CPD dates very soon, along with the reveal of my wonderful training venue — I can’t wait to show you! ✨

A moment of reflection on supervision.

Sitting here with the sound of the waves, I’m reminded how much our bodies respond to rhythm, how the ocean naturally co‑regulates us, slows us, and brings us back into ourselves.

Supervision can offer that same kind of grounding: a nurturing, reflective space to pause, feel supported, and reconnect with your inner world. What better place than from the beach hut with the view and sound of the ocean waves.

I offer clinical supervision for therapists, counsellors, and practitioners working with children and young people.

I provide creative arts, including sand tray, in my supervision to support supervisees to process their work in a way that makes sense to them.

Supervision spaces don't become available very often, so if this speaks to you, do message me for availability or to be added to my waiting list. I also offer group supervision for up to four and can do online supervision for those that are not local.

This week I have been busy attending the Master’s‑level course Language and Mind: Understanding Language Development and Complex Trauma at Plymouth Marjon University. Kindly funded by EPIC Solutions Exeter. It has been incredible and I can't wait to share so much more with you all over coming weeks and months.

Three days of deep, evidence‑based learning delivered by Dr Val Brooks, an expert in exploring how language, trauma and social cognition shape a child’s inner world.

We looked at what it means to view communication through a trauma lens, how mind develops within parent-child relationships, the impact of complex trauma and Developmental Language Disorder, and how narrative, memory and mentalization underpin emotional wellbeing.
It was inspiring, stretching, and full of practical insight I can’t wait to bring into my work.

Later this year, I’ll be offering a CPD training day to share the key learning from this course, translated into creative, accessible tools for therapists and CYP practitioners.

This training will help you:
🌊 Understand communication through a trauma lens
🌊Strengthen your work with DLD and complex trauma
🌊Deepen your understanding of mentalization and social cognition
🌊Use narrative and memory work more effectively
🌊Develop interventions that truly support CYP

I’m incredibly excited to pass this learning on because when practitioners understand the relationship between language, trauma and the developing mind, we can support children and young people with even greater clarity, compassion and confidence.

More details coming soon 🩵

An insight into how I work creatively with children and young people with OCD and intrusive thoughts. These are the types of methods I will be teaching if you join my upcoming CPD training on working therapeutically with children and young people with OCD.

Watch until the end if you want to see Ebony, the emotional support dog, make an appearance. 😊🐕🩵

The weekend just gone marked my final days teaching at the Iron Mill in Exeter. A place that has held so many years of learning, laughter, depth, and connection.

Teaching on the Integrative Counselling Degree and the Post‑Qualifying Children & Young People Diploma has been one of the greatest privileges of my professional life.

To all my students, past and present… thank you. 🙏
You have touched my life in ways I will carry forever.
You have shaped my thinking, informed my practice, stretched my understanding, and taught me just as much as I ever hoped to teach you. Every story, every question, every moment of courage and curiosity, it has all stayed with me.

Although my time at the Iron Mill is coming to a close, my mission hasn’t changed.

I am as committed as ever to supporting, empowering and equipping those who work therapeutically with children and young people.

Through Coastal Training, I’ll be continuing this work by offering:

🌊 A full range of creative, relational, therapeutically‑informed CPD trainings
🌊 A growing programme of one‑day and weekend workshops
🌊 And the hope of continuation of the Post‑Qualifying Diploma in Children & Young People’s Therapy, which will be delivered independently through Coastal Training alongside my CPD work.

All of these trainings are designed to support practitioners who want to work with children and young people in ways that are creative, embodied, attuned and deeply informed by real‑world practice.

If you’d like to explore what’s coming up, you’ll find the full list of CPD topics pinned at the top of my page.

And if you know someone who might benefit from this work, I’d be so grateful if you shared this post with them.

A like, follow or share also helps Coastal Training reach the people who need it most.

Thank you for walking alongside me in this chapter and for everything we’ve learned from one another along the way. 🩵

One of my favourite parts of teaching is finding creative, playful and deeply experiential ways to help ideas land, not just in the mind, but in the body and imagination too.

If you’ve trained with me, you’ll know how much I love using art materials, movement, story, acting, metaphor and hands‑on exploration to bring learning alive.

I’d really love to hear from you…
What has been one of your favourite or fun moments from our time together?

Or was there a creative or experiential activity that helped a difficult concept suddenly make sense in a new way?

Your reflections always mean so much to me.
