Because of the ongoing uncertainties of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), it can make those with MS more susceptible to mental health issues 👇
Just a few statistics:
25-50% of people with Multiple Sclerosis (pwMS) suffer with major depression, a number two to five times higher than the general population (Feinstein et., 2014).
Anxiety disorders are three time more likely in those with MS compared to the general population (John Hopkins medical article).
Individuals with MS and anxiety have a higher correlation of suicidal thoughts (Lewis et al., 2017; Eliasen et al., 2018)
Increased disease activity is associated with depression and anxiety (Noy et al., 1995).
However, recent research has found that not only was psychological disorder disproportionately higher in pwMS but psychological support was also inadequate to meet this need (Morris - Bankole & Ho, 2022).
This has resulted in psychological support being the greatest UNMET NEED for pwMS (Ponzio et al., 2015).
To meet some of this need I have designed a FREE course to support those with MS using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
