Gardiner Opticians Independent Optician in Burgess Hill Gardiners Opticians, formerly Wendy Carey Opticians, was established by the now retired, Wendy Carey, in 1994.

In February 2012, optometrist Catriona Gardiner took over the practice and has been running it ever since. Gardiners Opticians specialises in designer frames and a wide range of contact lenses, including specialist lenses for complex prescriptions.

A squint, also known as strabismus, is when the eyes do not point in the same direction. One eye may turn inwards, outwards, upwards or downwards while the other looks ahead.

Squints are more common in children, and early checks are important to help protect their vision and reduce the risk of the affected eye becoming lazy. Adults can occasionally develop a squint too, which may cause double vision and should be checked as soon as possible.

What’s an OCT scan?

An OCT scan gives us a more detailed view of the health of your eyes, showing the layers of tissue behind the retina in a way a standard eye test cannot.

It works a little like ultrasound for the eye, helping us spot changes and abnormalities earlier, sometimes up to five years before they may be picked up in a traditional test.
