Charter House Resource Centre & Sensory Room Charter House Resource Centre and Sensory Room is a care provider based in Burnley. Our main values are to learn, socialise and have fun!

We specialise in providing Day Care support and Home Care support to adults with disabilities, learning difficulties, the elderly and those with dementia. Charter House Resource Centre CIC has been established to benefit people who have special needs or a disability. Charter House is an Activity Centre for people who have a physical disability or a learning disability. We have a separate sensory r

oom within the same building which we hire out on an hourly basis. Our building has a wheelchair accessibility ramp to the side of the building; there are two separate entrances, one for the activity centre, and one for the sensory room, all of the doors in the centre are wide enough to accept people in wheelchairs. In the toilet area we have two toilets; one of these is fitted with a track hoist and has a drop down changing facility. In our Activity Centre we have;
- Cookery Classes
- Arts and Crafts
- Card Making
- Glass Painting
- Collage, decoupage
- Painting
- Working with clay (pottery)

In our Sensory Room we have;
The latest technology enabling the customer to be in control, also there is;
- Heated water bed
- L.E.D touch panels
- Fibre optics
- Projectors
- Bubble Tube
- UV lighting
and lots lots more! Charter House is managed by Jason and Carolyn Smith, a married couple who have worked for over 20 years with people who have disabilities. Carolyn has managed a large and successful day centre in Nelson for the last 4 years. Jason has worked with people who have a wide range of learning disabilities - both for the NHS, and more recently a large private company for over 10 years. They both feel that they have the knowledge and experience to provide a good level or service.

💦 Christal Clear Hydro: Deborah's Journey So Far! 💦

A huge shout‑out to Deborah, who has now completed 4 out of her 6 funded hydrotherapy pool sessions through the Christal Clear Hydro project. 😁

Her feedback speaks volumes about the difference these sessions are making. Deborah told us she’s experiencing improvements in both her physical and emotional wellbeing — and that alone is worth celebrating!🥳

💚 She no longer feels she needs to use her walking stick
💚 Enjoying sessions with friends has helped her build a closer social network
💚 Feeling less isolated and more emotionally supported

We’re thrilled to see how this project is supporting Deborah’s journey, and we can’t wait to see what the next two sessions bring!

💚 Reminder: Defibrillator Access 💚

Just a gentle reminder that a public access Defibrillator is located on the boundary fence of our car park here at Charter House Resource Centre. This is a vital, life-saving piece of equipment that’s available to any member of our community in the event of a medical emergency.

We sincerely hope it never has to be used, but please know it’s there should someone need it. If you’re passing by, please respect the equipment and its purpose. Do not tamper with it — it could make all the difference in saving a life.

🎯 New Game Alert! 🎯

Our service users had an amazing time last week trying out a brand‑new game that’s already becoming a favourite! 🤩

Staff took turns in the hot seat, balancing a cup on their head while our service users aimed bean bags to try and knock it off. 🏐 The biggest highlight? When our manager, Mark, stepped up! It’s safe to say our service users didn’t hold back — the room was full of laughter, cheers, smiles and some very impressive aim. 🤣

We love creating activities that bring joy, confidence and connection, and this one certainly delivered. Well done to everyone for getting involved and making it such a fun session! 💚

We've had a lovely few weeks here at Charter House, with our service users taking part in a range of activities including group games, gentle competition and our ever‑popular reading club. 📖

These sessions are created to support both physical activity and cognitive stimulation, and it’s been fantastic to see everyone getting involved and having such a great time.🤩
