🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸

We have been informed by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust today at 1530, that staff working in the blood sciences departments at Blackburn Royal Hospital and Burnley General Hospital will be taking part in industrial action on the following dates:

15 to 19 June - 22 to 26 June - 29 June to 3 July - 6 to 10 July

Unfortunately, this means the laboratories at both hospitals will have a reduced capacity, which will lead to longer waiting times for patients to receive results of blood tests.

We appreciate this may be frustrating, but we would politely ask patients not to contact the practice to chase up the results of blood tests, as we will be unable to make things happen any quicker.

Thank you to all patients for your continued support and understanding.

Temperatures are climbing across the UK. And we know that people living with MS can find that heat affects their symptoms. ☀️

We spoke to Associate Professor Davide Filingeri about why temperature changes affect MS.

And how you can keep cool in the heat.

What helps cool you down in the summer? Tell us in the comments. ⬇️

Today is officially the hottest day of the year so far - and while we’re all enjoying the sunshine, it’s important to stay safe in the heat.

Heat exhaustion can come on quickly, especially when you’re out in the sun, exercising, or not drinking enough water.

Look for:
- headache
- dizziness and confusion
- loss of appetite and feeling sick
- sweating with pale, clammy skin
- cramps in the arms, legs, and stomach
- fast, weakening pulse and rapid breathing

Knowing the signs and what to do could help protect you or someone around you.

Feeling anxious with a heart problem is common. Here are 5 techniques that can help in the moment (See below).

1. Grounding with your senses
When things feel overwhelming, grounding exercises like the 5-4-3-2-1 technique can help bring you back into the present moment.
Try naming:
5 things you can see
4 things you can feel or touch
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste

2. Dropping anchor
This mindfulness technique has three simple steps:
Acknowledge what you’re feeling, rather than pushing it away
Connect with your body (notice your feet on the floor, or gently move around)
Engage with your surroundings by focusing on what you can see and hear

3. Gentle distraction
Distraction can give you a break from anxious thoughts and help shift your focus.
You could try calling a friend, listening to music or stepping outside for a short walk.

4. Calm breathing
Techniques like box breathing and diaphragmatic breathing can help calm you by encouraging you to take slower, deeper breaths.

5. Muscle relaxation
If you do not find it helpful to focus on your breathing, try progressive muscle relaxation:
Starting at your feet, gently tense each muscle group and work upwards through your body. Hold for 10 seconds, then release and notice the difference.
If you have recently had surgery or have chronic pain, speak to your doctor before trying this technique and stop if you experience any discomfort whilst doing it.

💙 Have You or Someone You Care For Used Community Mental Health Services? 💙

A new research study, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), is exploring the experiences of people with learning disabilities and their families when using community mental health services.

The study is being carried out in partnership with Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust and Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

They would like to hear from:
✨ People with learning disabilities who have used community mental health services
✨ Family members and carers

Participants will be invited to take part in a short interview — in person, by phone, or online — at a time that suits them.

*This research study is not organised by Carers Link Lancashire, please refer to the poster for further info.

As a thank you, participants will receive a £20 voucher. 💐

By sharing your experiences, you can help improve future mental health support and services for others.
