✨ 9 W E E K S - 2 S T O N E L O S T ✨
Last night at our Marvellous Monday group I had the absolute pleasure of celebrating Michelle’s fantastic 2 stone award with her after joining us just 9 weeks ago 🌟🤩🌟
She is such an inspiration to us in group and has fully embraced our fabulous flexible eating plan to the max! So much so, she was nominated for Woman of the Year at last week’s celebration 🎉
Her story, in her words….
“Last year I turned 60, and I made a decision that I really needed to address my health and wellbeing.
I’ve been caring for my elderly dad, which is challenging, as well as working with food. Every day is a challenge in one way or another.
I’ve been happily married for 35 years, with two adult children and two grandchildren. Every Monday has been “Nanny Day” for the last five years, looking after our four-year-old granddaughter and five-year-old grandson. But now they’re both in full-time school and the years have just flown by.
Before you know it, you’re 60 and approaching retirement… oh my! I realised I needed to get myself healthy so I could enjoy this special time of my life.
In February, I stopped smoking. I had smoked for over 20 years and stopped in an instant after having very bad tonsillitis. I’ve not looked back since.
I was suffering with sciatica and plantar fasciitis, and it was painful to move every day. I then made the decision to get my health back on track and started searching for a “well woman’s clinic” for a full MOT - lol!
I found a wellbeing health check locally and made an appointment. All was good apart from a BMI of 44. I knew I needed to lose weight, and deep down I knew I had the strength to focus and win the war.
I couldn’t go upstairs without pain in my legs and knees. I’d be playing with the grandkids and wouldn’t be able to sit on the floor for long without feeling light-headed.
I’ve worked with food all my life - 28 years with McDonald’s and now 11 years with Greggs. The temptations of reduced-price food, snacks, cakes and everything else had piled the weight on, along with stopping smoking.
Then I joined Karen’s Slimming World group at St John’s Church.
I feel inspired by the people in our group and motivated by our leader, Karen. Everyone has their own demons to fight, but their stories and amazing weight losses have been such an inspiration to me.
I now eat a proper breakfast and I love fruit and vegetables! I love making recipes, which has even helped my husband lose 9kg.
I look forward to my next meal, I plan ahead and I record everything I eat and drink in my Slimming World app.
And now, just nine weeks later, I’ve lost an incredible two stone.
It has come quite easily for me so far, although I know there will be hard days, days when I stay the same and days when I might gain. But I will always remember the time when I couldn’t play comfortably with my grandchildren, or go on the rides with them at Drayton Manor.
I remember the pain in my knees. The pain in my back. The feeling of not being able to do the things I wanted to do.
Those memories are going to keep me focused.
I’m so looking forward to the new, healthier and happier me.”
