If you allow yourself to be the person that you are, then everything will come into rhythm. If you live the life you love, you will receive shelter and blessings. Sometimes the great famine of blessing in and around us derives from the fact that we are not living the life we love, rather we are living the life that is expected of us. We have fallen out of rhythm with the secret signature and light of our own nature.

This Monday Washday feels like a gift from the goddess ~ the bees are flying, and not just my honey bees but above the hives a blossom tree is amass of glorious bumblebees and alongside a wren sings its hallelujahs. As I peg, all parts of me welcome the sunshine of this spring morning, my body rejoices and I welcome the day ☀️

Today sees the resurrection of Monday Washday.

Each Monday gives us a chance to begin a fresh, with a clean slate ~ what might you begun afrsh with this week?

When I was a child, and in days gone by long before there were washing machines, the week began with washing clothes on Monday. It is not just a memory of my Mum but of her and my Gran together pulling out the twin tub at the beginning of the day, and it taking at least the whole morning ~ of tugging, toing, and poshing. I especially enjoyed the mangle ~ and from the day I was told “Not too many at a time or it’ll jam” it became a game to see actually how many items I could put through together without it jamming. Of course always keeping in mind the cautionary tale of when my Aunt as a child had in haste jammed her arm through! It was a constant source of delight and wonder!” And oh the ultimate pride in those sheets billowing on the line!

Today I’m flying low & I’m not saying a word
I’m letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.

The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.
And so forth.

But I’m taking the day off.
Quiet as a feather.
I hardly move though really I’m travelling a terrific distance.

Stillness. One of the doors into the temple.

One of my favourite Mary Oliver poems and one of my favourite quotes “Stillness. One of the doors into the temple.” And notice the full stop after “Stillness” an invitation to pause and really drink in the idea of stillness.

And one of my favourite painting “Sunday” by who obviously had the right idea about what Sundays are all about.

I find I oftenstruggle and feel guilty being still ~ that I have to frame it as a yoga practice, a Nidra, a meditation or some such. But today I invite you to be still in whatever way is best for you, and to join me and Mary Oliver in being still.

After a busy, social family day in the city yesterday I’m ready, on this Easter Sunday, for some “temple” time.
