Godfrey Care

Godfrey Care Godfrey Care provides residential care and supported living for adults who have a learning disability, complex needs and associated challenging behaviour.

Our specialist care team of fully trained staff works with each individual using a person-centred planning approach. As our specialist care homes only have a small number of beds, individuals are able to enjoy comfortable, high quality environments that are typical of any family home. Our aim is for all those under our care to experience a happy, fulfilled life and to develop the highest level of

independence. The needs of each individual are our priority, and we offer real opportunities to acquire new skills and build upon existing abilities. Our specialist teams support each individual to progress and develop life skills to work towards moving towards a more independent life. We see our services as a stepping stone to the future. We provide care for people with:

Learning Disabilities
Autistic spectrum disorder and Asperger's
Epilepsy
Challenging Behaviour and/or Complex needs. Our ethos is to empower everyone to have the confidence to take important steps forward in their daily lives. We believe that it is paramount that an individual's needs, wishes, choices, beliefs are always understood and respected. We also recognise each individuals' goals, aspirations, hopes and dreams and help to support them as they work towards achieving them. A fundamental part of the care planning we undertake ensures that each person in our care has a detailed activities-based programme catered to their individual needs within their home and their community. We believe a happy, engaging and proactive approach will help individuals to develop the independent living skills that will enable them to boost their self-esteem, confidence and quality of life; whilst also helping them to progress and hopefully move on to more independent living.

Celebrating Autistic Pride Day

Neurodiversity means many things. It reflects the natural differences in how we think, learn, communicate, experience, and interact with the world around us. These differences are a valuable part of human diversity.

Autism is one part of this diverse spectrum of human experience. Autistic people bring unique perspectives, qualities, talents, creativity, honesty, and ways of thinking that enrich our communities, relationships, and workplaces.

Autistic Pride Day is a celebration of identity and authenticity, and the recognition that being autistic is not something to be hidden or changed, but embraced, respected and valued.

At Godfrey Care, we recognise each person’s individual strengths and create environments where they feel included, supported, understood, and empowered to live their lives on their own terms.

Today, we celebrate the autistic people we support, our colleagues, families, and all those embracing the richness that neurodiversity brings to our communities.

Co-production is fundamental to how we develop a bespoke home for every individual we support. At the heart of that process, we place the design in the hands of the people who will live there – both practically and, in this case, quite literally.

From the very beginning, their preferences, sensory needs, aspirations and lived experience help form the roadmap for the co-production journey.

This principle was brought to life at one of our new residential settings currently being developed in Derbyshire, where J donned a hard hat and high-vis jacket to visit the construction site of his future self-contained apartment. With notepad in hand, J sketched out ideas, expressed his vision and explored potential layouts, providing invaluable insight into how the space could best support his needs and the way he wants to live.

Gaining J’s input at an early stage of construction is a vital part of the co-production process. We have also benefited from the incredibly valuable contributions of J’s family and care professionals at Derbyshire County Council, whose knowledge and collaborative approach are helping us make informed decisions that will have a meaningful impact on J’s future home.

As the project progresses, we will continue to work alongside J, his family, Derbyshire County Council, and our construction and clinical specialists to transform his ideas into a space that is truly his own.

The theme for Learning Disability Week 2026 is “Do you see me?” which is all about people with a learning disability being seen, heard and valued.

At Godfrey Care, we believe truly seeing someone means recognising their individuality, listening to their voice, and ensuring they have a central role in shaping their own life.

Co-production is vital to everything we do because the people we support are the experts in what matters to them. They take a lead in decisions about their care and support, their homes and their futures.

By embracing different perspectives, challenging assumptions and continually seeking new ways to support people to live with greater choice and control, we can create environments where individuals are not only seen, but heard, valued and empowered.

This Learning Disability Week, we are proud to support the message “Do you see me?” — celebrating the unique qualities, voices and potential of every person we support.

As the world comes together today for the kick-off of the 2026 World Cup, football fever has already reached Pottery House in Stoke-on-Trent!

The service has decided to set up its own men’s and women’s football teams, bringing colleagues closer together through a shared love of the beautiful game.

Two teams from Pottery House — Team Astra and Team Kev — played their first match last week on a local outdoor pitch. Team Astra secured a 1–0 victory, but the real success of the day was the incredible atmosphere, teamwork, and camaraderie shown by everyone involved. The players gave their all on the pitch, with colleagues cheering them on from the sidelines. A huge thank you to the local referee who kindly offered their support.

At Godfrey Care, we know that strong teams create exceptional care and support. This brilliant initiative is not only a chance to stay active and have fun, but also a wonderful way to strengthen friendships, boost wellbeing, and build connections beyond the workplace.

We hope to see the initiative grow across more of our services, with friendly matches and competitions bringing even more of our teams together in the future. If any service is interested in organising a team and setting up some matches, please email [email protected] and we will help you get the ball rolling! ⚽

Godfrey Care services have never been shy about firing up the BBQ when the opportunity presents itself, and sure enough, Dorset House in Chesterfield was the first to break out the tongs this season, making the most of the recent glorious weather! JH and the support team headed out to the garden to flame-grill a mouth-watering feast of burgers and hot dogs while soaking up the sunshine.

Our nearby Pine Bank service also dined al fresco, enjoying a bumper Bank Holiday buffet as part of an all-day summer party. The delicious spread included everything from cupcakes to kebabs, while salad cream and sun cream were dolloped in equal measure!

CS volunteered for DJ duties and kept everyone entertained with a fantastic set of non-stop floor-fillers, proving that bangers aren't just for barbecues.

We hope to see many more sunny days as the summer progresses, but one thing's for sure – Godfrey Care services have a healthy appetite for good food, great company and good times!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended Wednesday's Open Day at Willow Lodge in Sutton-in-Ashfield!

It was fantastic to welcome families, care professionals and partners, and to hear such positive feedback about this new specialist residential service. Willow Lodge has been thoughtfully designed to provide four self-contained living environments for adults with complex, high acuity needs, alongside welcoming communal spaces that support connection and wellbeing.

We’re incredibly proud of what has been achieved at Willow Lodge – the result of months of collaboration between families, Local Authorities, ICB commissioners, clinical teams, and Godfrey Care’s multidisciplinary and senior leadership teams. This shared approach has been central to shaping a service that truly reflects the needs of the individuals it will support.

Thank you to the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire, Merlita Bryan MBE, for attending the event to carry out the official ribbon-cutting duties. We greatly appreciate your kind words about our new service and our approach to the provision of complex care.

We will soon be welcoming our first arrivals at Willow Lodge as we prepare transitions for individuals whose homes have been tailored to meet their specific needs. From the earliest stages, families have played a vital role through regular site visits and ongoing input, ensuring that lived experience has directly influenced the design and feel of the service. The result is a setting built around the people who will call it home.

If you weren’t able to attend the Open Day, we would be delighted to arrange a personal visit for you to look around. To book an appointment, please email [email protected]

At Godfrey Care, we celebrate the career journeys of our colleagues through our Pathways to Progression series, highlighting how dedication, opportunity, and support lead to meaningful growth across our services.

Our latest feature is Aaran Fryer, whose success reflects ambition, adaptability, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality care.

Aaran joined Godfrey Care in 2022 as Deputy Manager at our Station House service and, within six months, progressed to Registered Manager, quickly demonstrating strong leadership and operational understanding.

In 2023, he supported the setup of two supported-living bungalows, broadening his knowledge and strengthening his ability to embed consistency and quality across multiple services. He was then promoted to Multi-Site Manager, taking on responsibility for Field House and gaining valuable experience leading two services.

After 12 months, Aaran was given the opportunity to open and manage his own 2-bedroom complex service in 2024 — a significant and highly successful step in his progression. In 2025, he progressed again to Manager of Ash Tree House, our 6-bed flagship residential service, while continuing to oversee his 2-bedroom service. In this role, he continues to demonstrate strong leadership, resilience, and a commitment to Godfrey Care values.

Reflecting on his journey, Aaran says:

""I’ve been given great opportunities throughout my time at Godfrey Care. Each role has helped me grow in confidence and develop my skills, and I’m proud of what I’ve achieved. I’m grateful for the support I’ve received and excited to keep progressing and making a positive difference.""

Aaran’s story demonstrates how progression can flourish when people are supported to grow. We are proud of his achievements and the positive difference he continues to make across our services.
