One of the most common thing I see as a Nutritionist..?

People overcomplicating their diet.

Yes, it looks like the influencers on here have perfect diets, but the reality is, no one does🫠

And this is often the thing that holds people back, often resulting in yoyo dieting😩

So to put it more simply - make a few small changes.

Focus on those first and see how you feel, before changing everything🫶🏻

If you’d like help with your diet, DM me ‘diet’ for a free initial call✨

My top 5 horror films 👻

1. Carbs are not the enemy! They’re not solely responsible for weight gain and they’re certainly not worth removing from your diet for any reason - in fact, as our brains need carbs first and foremost for energy, we can become low in mood and irritable with too few carbs. Plus, it’s the TYPE of carbs you should be considering if you want to make healthier choices🍞

2. Training fuelled is better. We need fuel to burn during exercise, so working out fasted will only impact your performance and make you feel like 💩. It doesn’t have to be a huge meal - even a small banana before a workout is better than nothing to get your carbs in!

3. High protein ultra processed foods are very much in the limelight. But what people don’t realise is that eating more high protein bagels & cereal bars to hit your ‘protein goal’ also means you’re consuming plenty of added ingredients that are less good for us. Becoming reliant on these also means you’re less likely to reach for highly nutritious foods that are protein rich, which can lead to other deficiencies🙅🏻‍♀️

4. If you want to fast, that’s totally fine but be aware that fasting is not a miracle cure for weight loss. It’s simply a time management ‘tool’ - the idea being to shorten the windows in which you eat. For some, this can work, but for most, this is not sustainable and can create unhealthy relationships with food (the all or nothing approach) 🤨

5. Sugar is not addictive. It’s nice. It’s moreish. But it’s totally okay to eat and include in a balanced diet. I see more people struggling to control their sugar consumption as a result of ‘cutting out sugar’ than I do anyone else. If you like foods that contained refined sugar, that is totally okay. Have some chocolate now and then and enjoy it without guilt or shame and without needing to ‘make up for it’ later🤎

JUST YOUR NUTRITIONIST HERE TO REMIND YOU TO FUEL YOUR RUNS!⚡️

Whether it’s 8k or 28k, fuelling your runs is SO important when it comes to performance & recovery 🏃🏻‍♀️

Signs that your glycogen stores are running low & you need to refuel look like: fatigue, heavy legs & a slower pace ⛔️

Aim for 30-60g carbs every 30 minutes for the first 3 hours of running, anything beyond this requires 60-90g per 30 minutes🍌

This can be gels, jelly sweets, dried fruit, banana - there’s loads of options!🍬

For more information & support on fuelling your runs, drop me a message & I can help🫶🏻

This marathon season, I’m supporting quite a few runners with their nutrition during training 🏃🏾🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️

A question I’m often asked is ‘what’s the best thing to eat before a long run/race?’

So if you’re wondering this too, let me help you out💁🏻‍♀️

Pre run, think carbs carbs carbs!!! Carbohydrates need to be the priority at this point as you’re about to use a load of energy from your glycogen stores💨

You want easily digestible, high carb foods such as bananas, oats, white bread, honey, jam, granola, cereal bars etc🍌

It’s best to combine this with a small amount of protein and healthy fats for sustained energy, such as porridge made with milk, plus banana and honey🥣

Aim to eat 1-2 hours before running and make sure to hydrate too💦

If you don’t already eat like this pre run, try giving this a go and see how you feel!✨
