This Pride Month, we celebrate the strength, courage and individuality of LGBTQ+ people in our communities and in recovery.

Adam’s story is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, and that with the right support, people can not only rebuild their lives but become a lifeline for others.

Now 40 years old, Adam lived in active addiction from the age of 14 and spent decades struggling not only with substance misuse, but also with his identity and sexuality. Trying to conform to societal expectations led him into a heterosexual relationship that lasted nine years. From the outside, life appeared stable and successful, but internally he was struggling deeply, and his addiction continued to take hold. In April 2022, Adam entered BAC and began the journey that would completely change his life. Since rebuilding his life, Adam has dedicated himself to helping others. In 2024, he founded Rainbow RIOT after already being heavily involved with RIOT, recognising the need for support specifically for LGBTQ+ individuals in recovery. What began as weekly meetings at Burton Fire Station, alongside an online Zoom facility, has grown into a hugely successful support network reaching countless individuals across Staffordshire. Rainbow RIOT now provides support through social media, outreach services, and collaborative work with combined services, ensuring others facing similar struggles know they are not alone.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and supported β€” whoever they are.
We’re proud to deliver inclusive services for people affected by alcohol and drug use, ensuring LGBTQ+ individuals can access support without fear of judgement or discrimination.

Recovery should be a space where people can be their true selves, feel understood and be treated with dignity.

We’re also proud of our diverse staff team, who bring compassion, understanding and lived experience to the work they do every day.
Together, we stand for inclusion, equality and support for all πŸ’›

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) 🌈
Did you know the date marks the 1990 decision by the World Health Organization (WHO) to remove homosexuality from its list of mental disorders?
Today is about standing against discrimination and celebrating inclusion, equality and acceptance for LGBTQ+ communities everywhere.
Adam Cope’s journey is one of resilience, honesty and transformation. Let's raise a toast to the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, Tina Turner. While the world knew her for that powerhouse voice, the LGBTQ+ community knew her as something even more special - a true ally who showed up when it mattered most.

Back in 1982, when most celebrities wouldn't touch anything gay-related with a ten-foot pole, Tina headlined the opening ceremony of the first-ever Gay Games in San Francisco. Other major artists had turned down the gig, but Tina said yes without hesitation, helping launch a historic moment for q***r athletes around the world.

Then in 2000, she told The Advocate that same-sex marriage was "a wonderful thing" and called it "God's blessings" - this was 15 years before it became legal nationwide in the US.

But her impact on the community goes beyond activism. Walk into any drag bar in the world, and you'll hear "Proud Mary" blasting through the speakers. The song became one of the most iconic lip-sync anthems in drag history, with everyone from RuPaul to local queens serving Tina realness on stage for decades.

Tina didn't just perform for us. She stood with us, spoke up for us, and inspired generations of LGBTQ+ people to be unapologetically themselves. Simply the best, indeed.
