Love this post from dawn at Preston trick dogs ❤️🐾
**☀️ Helping dogs cope when children are home for the summer**
The summer holidays can be wonderful...
More time together.
More adventures.
More fun.
But for some dogs, having children at home all day can be a BIG change.
Their usual quiet routines disappear.
There are more footsteps, more noise, more movement and more excitement.
Even the most patient dog can find it a little overwhelming.
So how can we help them?
🐾 **Create a safe space**
Make sure your dog has somewhere they can relax and rest without being disturbed.
A crate, bed, quiet room or simply a space that belongs to them.
🐾 **Teach children to respect dog body language**
Dogs don't always growl or bark when they are uncomfortable.
Look for the quieter signs:
* Turning away
* Moving away
* Lip licking
* Yawning
* Avoiding interaction
* Becoming still
These are important conversations that help children learn kindness and respect.
🐾 **Keep some routines**
Dogs thrive on predictability.
Try to keep some familiar parts of their day:
🐶 Walks
🐶 Rest time
🐶 Training sessions
🐶 Quiet time together
🐾 **Give your dog appropriate activities**
A busy household doesn't always mean a fulfilled dog.
Make time for:
✨ Sniffing
✨ Chewing
✨ Trick training
✨ Food enrichment
✨ One-to-one time
🐾 **Don't wait until your dog struggles**
Management isn't a punishment.
Giving your dog space, supervision and support is how we help them succeed.
Remember...
A dog who walks away isn't being rude.
A dog who wants quiet time isn't being antisocial.
A dog who needs a break is simply communicating.
💜 Our job is to listen.
How does your dog cope when the children are home? Are they joining in with all the fun... or looking for somewhere peaceful to escape? 😂👇
