New 5.0-star Review: "I was seen very quickly at a time that suited me and was felt with in an excellent manner. My lower back issue was nearly gone within a week and one treatment and my shoulder injury was again, nearly gone within 3 shockwave sessions. I can highly recommend going here and will not hesitate to book in again with Phil or the team if I have any more problems in the future."

What Is Degenerative Disc Disease?

Hearing the term Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) can sound alarming, but it doesn't necessarily mean you have a serious disease. In fact, it describes the natural ageing and wear of the spinal discs that occurs in many people over time. Many adults have degenerative changes visible on an MRI scan without experiencing any pain at all.

Problems arise when the worn disc becomes inflamed, loses height or begins to irritate nearby spinal nerves. This can lead to symptoms such as lower back pain, sciatica, stiffness, numbness or pain travelling into the leg. The severity of your symptoms doesn't always match what is seen on a scan, which is why a thorough clinical assessment is so important.

At Spinal Specialists – Buxton & Bakewell Osteopathy Clinic, we look beyond your MRI findings to understand how your spine is functioning. Treatment may include expert Osteopathy, personalised rehabilitation, lifestyle advice and, where appropriate, IDD Therapy (non-surgical spinal decompression) to help reduce pressure on affected discs and nerves.

💙 A diagnosis of degenerative disc disease doesn't mean you have to live with pain.

New 5.0-star Review: "Suffering badly from plantar fasciitis I visited the Buxton Osteopathy Clinic where I was treated by Elliot. After just one visit the results were pretty amazing. A swelling and tightness in my lower leg that I had had for over a year was gone by the following day Now three weeks and two further visits later I am able to walk again almost normally and not just painfully hobble around. Very impressed by the professionalism and results. Highly recommended."

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are molecules that fight free radicals in your body. Free radicals are compounds that can cause harm if their levels become too high in your body. They’re linked to multiple illnesses, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Your body has its own antioxidant defenses to keep free radicals in check.

However, antioxidants are also found in food, especially in fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based, whole foods. Several vitamins, such as vitamins E and C, are effective antioxidants. Antioxidant preservatives also play a crucial role in food production by increasing shelf life.

In summary, your diet is an essential source of antioxidants, which are found in animal and plant foods — especially vegetables, fruits, and berries.
