New 5.0-star Review: "Suffering badly from plantar fasciitis I visited the Buxton Osteopathy Clinic where I was treated by Elliot. After just one visit the results were pretty amazing. A swelling and tightness in my lower leg that I had had for over a year was gone by the following day Now three weeks and two further visits later I am able to walk again almost normally and not just painfully hobble around. Very impressed by the professionalism and results. Highly recommended."

New 5.0-star Review: "I highly recommend this clinic. I have found Phil to be incredibly friendly, thorough, and considerate, always taking time to listen and find the root cause of my pain. The hands-on treatment provided during appointments is excellent and offers relief, as well as advice and guidance to take away between appointments to support recovery at home."

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are molecules that fight free radicals in your body. Free radicals are compounds that can cause harm if their levels become too high in your body. They’re linked to multiple illnesses, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Your body has its own antioxidant defenses to keep free radicals in check.

However, antioxidants are also found in food, especially in fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based, whole foods. Several vitamins, such as vitamins E and C, are effective antioxidants. Antioxidant preservatives also play a crucial role in food production by increasing shelf life.

In summary, your diet is an essential source of antioxidants, which are found in animal and plant foods — especially vegetables, fruits, and berries.

What is cortisol and what can we due to reduce it?

Cortisol is a hormone produced in the adrenal glands. The brain triggers the body to release cortisol into the bloodstream in response to physical and emotional stressors.
For example, when faced with a stressful situation, the body activates the ‘fight or flight’ response. In the short term, cortisol is released in order to remain on high alert. When the threat or danger passes, cortisol levels drop. Problems arise when cortisol levels are consistently high, which can increase the risk of a range of health conditions, including: high blood pressure, heart disease, type-2 diabetes; weight and sleep disturbances.

Here are some ways to lower cortisol levels:

1. Focus on a balanced diet
2. Include omega-3 fatty acids in your diet (e.g. oily fish, such as salmon, mackerel or sardines, walnuts and pumpkin seeds)
3. Don’t skip meals
4. Watch the caffeine and alcohol
5. Look after your gut
6. Avoid screens
7. Get enough sleep
8. Exercise
9. Try stress-management techniques (e.g. meditation, journalling)
