RIP RICHARD THORLEY
Post copied from Rems with permission

Finally we have a date for Richard Thorley's funeral.

With an overwhelming show of support, generosity and love, we have raised sufficient funds to give Richard a send off that he deserves, rather than the alternative that was looking likely to be a paupers funeral.

Huge thanks to Alan Tideswell for all his efforts in this, cutting through a lot of red tape and form filling.

Richard's funeral service will be at St Thomas Becket Church, Tuesday 19th May at 1:30pm, followed by a private cremation at Macclesfield.
Everyone is warmly invited back to Chapel Golf Club for refreshments and to celebrate Richard's life.

Thank you everybody who has made this possible.
Kind Regards
Gareth.

RIP ROY BUXTON
COPIED WITH PERMISSION FROM A FAMILY POST

We have previously announced the passing of our Dad, Roy Buxton, who died at Stepping Hill Hospital on Tuesday 31st March. Roy had been in Chapel-en-le-Frith since the early 1960’s and was a long-standing member of the congregation at St Thomas Becket.

His funeral, and subsequent burial has been arranged at St Thomas Becket in Chapel on Friday 24th April at 11.00am. Anyone who knew him and would like to pay their respects and remember him is welcome to attend. This will be a celebration of a life well lived and full of music, one of his passions.

We will be having flowers from the family only please. If you would like to donate instead of flowers, then we are supporting the following charities: Guide Dogs for the Blind, and the British Heart Foundation

If anyone wants further details of the funeral, then please message us directly or contact LD&A Tideswell on 01298 813165.

Thanks Lynton Buxton, Emma Hibbert, Nigel Buxton

There’s a quiet truth about life that we often forget when we’re young—

the roles we hold today…
won’t stay the same forever.

The strength you feel now,
the independence you carry,
the confidence in your steps—

one day,
they will soften.

And in that moment,
you will understand
what it truly meant to be gentle with others.

Because life has a way of turning the wheel.

Today, you are strong—
so be kind to those who are struggling.
Offer a hand, even when it’s not asked for.
Stand beside someone who feels small in a world that can be too heavy.

Today, you are capable—
so respect those who move slower than you.
Listen to the voices that speak with experience,
even if they come with trembling hands and quiet words.

Today, you are learning—
so don’t be afraid to admit when you’re wrong.
There is no shame in mistakes,
only in refusing to grow from them.

Because, one day,
life will place you on the other side.

You may walk a little slower.
You may need a little help.
You may look back and wish
you had understood these things sooner.

And in that moment,
you won’t remember how strong you once were—

you’ll remember how you treated people when you were.

So be gentle now.
Be patient now.
Be humble now.

Because kindness is the only thing
that will stay with you
through every version of yourself you become.

And in the end,
it’s not strength that defines you—

it’s the softness you chose to carry
when you had every reason not to.

With sadness I need to post this.
Richard Thorley very much a part of Chapel community over many decades, sadly passed away a few weeks ago and with no apparent living relative. It had been intimated to me that Rick will likely now be given a paupers funeral by the council. That would mean nobody will really know when it would be.

I as a friend, and Rick was a permanent resident with me at The Royal Oak for five years back in the day, I know he deserves better.

I know he had many friends at the Golf Club, Cricket Club and around the local pubs. I have spoken to Sally Tideswell today and to give him what he deserves it will cost in the region of £4k.
However, if we dont react quickly the council may move it along.

I am happy to front the money so we can move forward a church service for Rick and then a private cremation. It is very complicated as no one at this point has any knowledge of Rick's finances until after the funeral. It may or may not be nessessary but either way it needs to be done properly.

I am happy to move forward the process and pay the undertakers to do it properly so the council dont take over.

I will have a bucket on the bar at Rems for anybody who wishes to donate to this, and I would like to think as a community we can give Richard a respectful and a proper send off.

Kind regards,
