It's been a year since I opened the doors to my woodland cabin for the very first time.

The time has absolutely flown by! And yet, as I think back over the seasons I've watched from that window, it feels like a lifetime of moments. Fires crackling through the dark winter evenings, the pitter patter of rain on the roof and throwing the windows and doors wide open in summer. Just as the view shifted and changed with the seasons, so did the sessions.

Working with the dark and the light. I didn't plan that, it's just what this place is.

Having my own space, being flexible with my time and energy, watching women return again and again - choosing themselves again and again - it really feels like I'm building something.

Everything I do, I do with love, care and intention. That part never changes.

It's been a season of navigating life more than showing up on here, and if you've been doing that same, I get it more than you know.

But September has arrived and so have I, finding my feet, back in the cabin doing what I love with plenty still happening quietly in the background. Things may start to look a little different around here over the coming weeks (maybe this post is a sneak peek 😜) and October has some new things on the horizon that I'm genuinely excited to share.

For now though, can we just take a moment for the 'ber months?

We may still be clinging on to the last of the summer but if you've noticed a pull or a longing for cosy evenings, earlier nights and staying in instead of going out - that's not laziness and it's not something to push through or feel guilty about. To me, it's biology. We're seasonal creatures, (whether modern life acknowledges that or not!) and your nervous system is simply responding to the natural world around it.

Remember, you are allowed to slow down with the season 🍂

Let's talk about the scroll holes...

Because I had way too many of them the past few months, and I think it's important to be honest about that. Partly because I'm not here to perform a perfect wellness journey at you and partly because I think we need to talk about what "doing nothing" actually means.

There's a difference between the scroll holes you fall into because you're avoiding something and the hour when you leave your phone in another room and just exist for a bit. Both involve doing nothing but only one of them actually fills you back up.

The scroll hole is doing nothing while quietly convincing yourself that you're resting. The other kind is actually resting. I had both and I'm not going to pretend that one was more enlightening than the other because sometimes you just need to eat the sweet treats and do absolutely nothing useful, and that is also fine.

But the permission I really want to talk about is the deeper one. The permission to not be okay. The permission to have a day where you feel so drained you can't quite remember what normal feels like and instead of forcing a smile or talking yourself into gratitude, you just let it be for that day. You don't fix it or reframe it. You just let yourself be exactly where you are without performing okayness at anyone - including yourself!

That one has taken years to give myself. And I feel it's the most important one.

So yes, I had scroll holes. I also had afternoons where I left my phone inside to lay on the grass looking up at the clouds and didn't try to make it mean anything. Both count as doing nothing, the trick is knowing which one you're choosing and why.

Be gentle with yourself, especially the messy bits.

There's a small brown bottle on my beside table that's become one of the most grounding things I own. Egyptian Rose oil 🌹

I brought I home from a pilgrimage in Egypt last November, a trip that is not easy to put into words. It was the kind of experience where you know something shifted but you have to be mindful of who you share what with - to avoid raised eyebrows and concern over your state of mind 😂 So I mostly just keep it close and let the oil do the talking.

Each morning I roll it onto my wrists, rub it in slowly, close my eyes and breathe it in. The whole thing lasts about 30 seconds, but those seconds are entirely mine, not the day's yet, not anyone else's, just me and the scent.

It smells like peace to me now, partly Egypt, partly the energy healer I see each month who introduced me to the oil. When I breathe it in each morning, something in my body remembers what it feels like to be looked after, to be on the receiving end for once.

These last couple of months, everything felt heavy and scattered in a way that my usual monthly sessions weren't quite enough to hold. My healer suggested I come back the following week, and I did, because I trust her completely. When she says come back, it's not a money grab, she genuinely cares. So weekly it was, for 3 weeks. Then fortnightly for a couple more sessions then back to monthly as I gradually found my footing again and was able to add other things in alongside it.

There are many reasons I do this work and being on the receiving end of it reminded me why I've chosen this path.

They say your body keeps the score of everything you've been through, and sometimes, the most radical thing you can do is give it a moment to be tended to 💖

Something I've learned about hard seasons is that the big gestures don't save you. The retreat, the spa day, the grand gestures of self-care are all wonderful but they're not what gets you through the in-between days when everything feels heavy and the gap between who you currently are and who you want to be feels so vast.

What got me through (and is still getting me through) is smaller than that.

Two bookends, one at each end of the day that holds everything else in place.

In the morning, a coffee in the garden before the day has got its hands on me. Nothing fancy, just me, my mug, the birds doing their thing and 5/10 minutes where I'm not anyone's anything yet. It sounds so simple that you may question how it can possibly help, but on the days I skip it, I feel the difference ☕

And at night, a chapter of a book in a bed. Not my phone and the social media scroll, not tomorrow's to-do list, not wondering how everyone else is doing and not the running catalogue of everything I STILL haven't done. Just a story that isn't mine for a little while. Something to switch off my brain and lose myself in. And the bonus is that it sets me up for sleep perfectly 😴

That's it. Two small and ordinary things, repeated enough times that they become the shape of each day and something to look forward to.

I'm not sharing this as advice, I'm not really in the business of telling others what to do. But if you're in a hard stretch right now, maybe there's something in the idea of bookends to your day. One small thing at the start and one small thing at the end. And everything in between just gets survived.

It's been a while....

Life has been full in ways I haven't wanted to share publicly (I'm a private kinda gal). Some of it is heavy, including a recent bereavement, and for a stretch of time showing up here just wasn't possible. And if I'm being completely honest, it just wasn't a priority. I've been where I've needed to be, with the people who needed me.

And yet, July has arrived with a diary full of work that was booked in months ago and means a lot to me. This weekend I'm heading to a yoga retreat to provide Indian Head Massage in a beautiful setting. The weekend after I'll be at Wye Valley Wellness Festival doing the same. And I'll be spending the weekend after that with some of the loveliest women I know.

Life doesn't pause for our hard seasons, and neither do we, but we can choose how we move through them. I'm choosing slowly, gently, with intention.

This month I'm purposely keeping my cabin appointments limited so I have the space to be where I'm needed. There are a few spots left in July. If you've been thinking about booking, I'd love to see you there ✨

On Sunday I donated 3 hours of my time to volunteer at an event for parents of unwell children in The Heath.

I gave 30-minute Indian Head Massage treatments, and I wasn't alone - there was a whole host of holistic and massage therapists, beauticians, hairdressers, nail techs, caterers, foot health specialists and more, all giving their time freely because they WANTED to.

These events happen every 3-4 months and are organised by the lushest people who founded and They know what it's like to exist in that strange suspended reality where normal life just... stops. And from their unimaginable losses, they've created something so beautiful, to give other parents a few hours of being looked after, when they need it most.

When a parent sits in your chair, you can feel what they're carrying. They haven't stopped and haven't had a chance to think about themselves for weeks, sometimes months. That moment at the end of the session when you see them looking relaxed, lighter somehow, is honestly payment enough. "That's just what I needed" is the icing on the cake.

The world feels frightening right now, I won't pretend it doesn't. But rooms like that one exist. People like that exist - quietly, without fanfare or a megaphone, just showing up on a Sunday because the world needs it.

And that gives me hope.

Yesterday may have been my favourite ever Life Sparc day!

I genuinely went to bed smiling - after reading a few chapters of Throne of Glass - IYKYK 😉

A little girl, a piece of paper and more wisdom than she knew...

Yesterday I was sorting through a pile of paperwork and I came across this poem my niece wrote for me, she must have been about 10.

I sat there and smiled, a proper Cheshire Cat grin, especially at the mention of the clumsiness 😂

In the wellbeing world we talk a lot about not tying our self-worth to what others think of us. And I wholeheartedly agree that our value shouldn't be dependent on external validation. But sometimes, on the harder days, a little reminder of how we're seen by the people who love us most can be just the boost we need.

Not as a replacement for self-belief, but a reminder of the parts of ourselves we sometimes forget. A gentle nudge back to self-belief.

This is something I hold close in my work at Life Sparc - helping you reconnect with who truly are, especially when life makes it hard to see clearly.

I used to have a folder of these kinds of things from colleagues and service users - it kept me going on the days I questioned if I was good enough.

You asked.....here it is! The evening edition of Rest & Connect.

It's been particularly tricky to find a room big enough that's available for an evening session but thankfully The Twyn came through for us 🙌🏼

As the working day ends, give yourself permission to relax.

This is a one-hour guided relaxation session designed to ease you out of the busyness of the day and gently prepare you for a restful, peaceful evening - followed by a cuppa and a natter.

You'll lay down and be guided through a yoga nidra practice, also known as yogic sleep - a deeply restorative practice where your body rests while your mind stays gently aware. It is said that just 30 minutes of yoga nidra can feel equivalent to 2-4 hours of sleep.

You'll leave feeling calm, grounded and ready to rest.

All you need to bring is a yoga mat, a blanket, a pillow or cushion and your fluffiest socks. I have a number of mats and blankets available to use.

No experience needed, just come as you are.

Whether you've attended the wellbeing walks or are just curious, you'll receive a warm welcome ☺️
