There’s something really powerful from reframing your life and choosing not to follow the limitations of a new diagnosis. At the height of my symptoms, the only narrative that would ring circles in my mind, was a wish I didn’t have alopecia… Vitiligo… Chronic gut investigations… epilepsy… ( the list goes on and on) 😂 but the truth was, autoimmunity was never going to leave me. So the only thing left to change was my mindset.🧠

The more are understood about what it was, my immune system needed, the more reversed my symptoms. The more reversed my symptoms, the less I saw of the diagnosis. The less I saw of my diagnosis, the more I saw me. 💖
If bending my boundaries meant it’s costing me, it wasn’t worth it.🫡

This was the fire in my belly, that I needed to study as a practitioner. Fire🔥 It’s where my training remains because I truly believe, if I could do it, then others absolutely can too.💪🫶🧬

I know firsthand how good it feels to view life through a different lens. When your mind becomes expansive, and your thoughts become limitless, you start living for yourself. Giving yourself the identity of strength, changes everything.🌟✨

Because our thoughts changes our physiology. When you’re living with limitations, this is the time you need to ask yourself, what can I change in my life today, to improve things even at one percent.🤓🕵️‍♀️

When you do this consistently enough, the needle starts moving. Food is absolutely foundational, but so is the people you surround yourself with, the movement you incorporate into your life, the quality of sleep you prioritise, the element of joy all come to play. When longevity requires this, you appreciate life differently.🧠💖🧬

Having raw and real conversations with myself, is still the only way I continue to grow. If I want to work on my flaws, then something needs to change. As the saying goes, “nothing changes if nothing changes”✨

This is your September reminder, don’t let anyone tell you this is your final destination. You are more than your diagnosis. You are more than your symptoms.

BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOU. 💖

Broken sleep and autoimmune flares are more connected than most people realise. Throw hormones into the mix and It’s often a spiral. The less we sleep, the more we flare, the more we flare, the less we sleep 🧐

BUT there are practical things you can do to that make a real difference. Swipe through. 🤍

I genuinely thought running on five hours was productive. Of like me you grew up around sensualised success looking like a hamster on a wheel, panda eyed and a coffee supplies dripping of your palms, sleep was not something you should maketime for. Be it student life, long work hours, always socially on. The switch off never stops 😣

With autoimmunity that mindset was one of the most damaging things I could do. My body was keeping score long before I was paying attention. 🧐🤓🧬

This is the part most people overlook. We all know we feel off when we haven’t slept, we truly feel it, but the physiology behind “why” is less understood. 🧠

Let’s geek out a little. Your immune system isn’t resting while you sleep. It’s actively regulating. Cytokine production, T-cell activity, inflammatory modulation. Sleep is your body’s maintenance window. 🧬

And here’s the part that genuinely fascinates me, cerebrospinal fluid acts like a car wash overnight, clearing beta amyloid plaques and toxins from the brain. Research links chronic sleep disruption to increased risk of cognitive decline. This is one of the most well backed areas of sleep science we have.

And melatonin, our sleep hormone IS also our most potent endogenous antioxidant. Without adequate sleep, cellular recovery only goes so far. 🧬

Cortisol should peak in the morning and drop by evening. 📉

Poor sleep disrupts this rhythm. 🥁 Elevated evening cortisol keeps the immune system reactive meaning the inflammation you’ve worked all day to manage is quietly being driven back up overnight. That’s the loop. ➰

Declining oestrogen and progesterone affect sleep architecture directly less deep sleep, more frequent waking, higher cortisol reactivity. 🌪️🙄

For someone already managing autoimmunity this adds a significant immune stressor on top of everything else. This is why perimenopause and autoimmunity together n

Years of being told it was “IBS”. There’s nothing you can do. Years of eliminating more and more foods trying to get on top of symptoms that never fully resolved, meant food restrictions became greater and tolerance less. Inviting more intolerances, less nutrients, poor absorption and the cycle not only continued, it GREW!! 🤯

If this sounds familiar, keep reading. Because the restriction wasn’t the problem. It was a signal I didn’t yet know how to read. 🤪

Here’s what was actually happening. Every time I eliminated a food, I was reducing the diversity of my gut microbiome. 🦠 Less diversity means less resilience. Less resilience means more reactivity. 💥

The science on this is clear, a depleted microbiome reduces immune tolerance, which means the immune system becomes increasingly sensitive to foods it would normally handle without issue. Remember approx 70% of our immune system resides in the gut. 🧬

I wasn’t becoming more intolerant because of the foods. I was becoming more intolerant because of what was happening in my gut lining and microbiome 🫣. Whilst the bloating eased, restriction meant nutrient depletion ❌

Intestinal permeability( leaky gut)means the tight junctions of the gut lining break down. 🌪️ Undigested food particles pass into the bloodstream and the immune system mounts a response. 🔥

The more permeable the gut, the more foods trigger a reaction. Supporting the gut barrier inc specific probiotic strains, addressing bacterial overgrowth, and supporting liver detoxification pathways, that’s what shifted things alongside my nutritional supplements intervention. I was already eating “clean” so I thought, but without the REPAIR wasn’t achieving much. Stool tests 💩 truly felt like a life line when every door closed telling me “your bloods are fine” 🙄

AIP is often misunderstood as a permanent restrictive diet. It isn’t. It’s a short term elimination and reintroduction protocol designed to reduce inflammatory load while the gut heals and immune reactivity calms. The reintroduction phase IS the whole point, systematically testing which foods your immune system can now tolerate as the underlying environment improves. 💪

Generic advice completely broke me and truly took over my livelihood. 😩

“Eat well, reduce stress, exercise”. Helpful in theory. Meaningless without understanding what’s actually driving the immune chaos underneath. Autoimmunity needs a specific lens, not a wellness one. 🤍

This one is really important and not talked about enough. Immune boosting is not the goal with autoimmunity. Your immune system isn’t underactive it’s already over active hence attacks the target tissue. (E.g: IBD - GI tract, vitiligo - melanocytes, hashi/ graves - thyroid ect)

Stimulating it further can accelerate the attack on your own tissue. Spirulina, echinacea, alfalfa sprouts all commonly recommended, all potentially problematic depending on your specific autoimmune picture. This is why individual assessment matters so much and symptom tracking can be sooo helpful!! 🧐

Following generic diets, when the gut isn’t permeable or driving bacteria imbalances, can make even healthy foods, difficult to digest and absorb. Long term eliminations were the worst thing I could have done. Guided repair and phase in is crucial 💪

The comparison piece genuinely held me back for years. Watching people without autoimmunity train harder, recover faster, eat anything and feel fine. 😣🫣

My body has a different workload running in the background constantly. Once I stopped measuring myself against that standard and started working with my actual capacity everything shifted. Finally knowing what works for my conditions, now gives me zero guilt and conviction to my goals 🧬💪

Understanding your genetics isn’t about finding something else wrong with you. It’s about understanding why your body responds differently to things that seem to work for everyone else. For me (this one’s really down to how you feel receiving info, but for me it was incredibly helpful)🧬

A genetic mutation sounds alarming, it’s not. It simply means a variation in how your DNA is expressed. You’re born with it. You can’t change it. But once you know about it you can work with it rather than against it.🧬🎯

Six months of sitting with the fact that some parts of me belong to the past and that’s what I’m attached to, has made me finally accept and stop fighting with my biological clock. Flooded with all that comes with this lifestage, online and off made things feel grim for a while. Whilst navigating the flares and sitting with the emotions, somehow that’s been the making of this next chapter. The Meno Era isn’t what I expected. It’s actually better if a look through the right lens 🤍

Autoimmunity once was a lonely in a way that’s hard to explain to people who haven’t lived it or a life changing illness. You look fine. Your tirelessly told your bloods are fine. But you know something is always simmering. Finding people who get it, really get it changed something in me. Hence why I love the clients I work with. We get it!!
Community isn’t a nice to have. It’s medicine.🧬

Nobody warned me that declining oestrogen would affect serotonin and dopamine too. Or that cortisol would become so much more reactive. But I reminded myself that no one warned me with everything you actually live with when your diagnosed with an under represented condition or conditions but somehow here I am, helping others understate symptoms. Top priority continues. My tolerance for face value absolutely died years ago and honestly? That’s not a personality change. That’s biology doing me a favour. A you problem is firmly just that now, even more so than before 🙏🏻

There’s a quiet grief in moving away from the reproductive years that nobody really talks about. I feel it. I honour it. And it’s made me more passionate than ever about supporting women through this in clinic because this transition deserves so much more than it gets. There’s so much about the meno belly and body changes, but very little about the fact your body is under going a biological change to stop reproducing. As someone whom lived through autoimmune infertility “symptoms”, there’s a whole level of acceptance and respect for the female body that comes with this change. 🤰

Creatine. I wish someone had told me years ago. Women store less of it in the brain than men which might explain a lot of my more chaotic mornings. Promi

Living with multiple autoimmune conditions means I’ve had to become my own biggest advocate. The system wasn’t built for complexity like this and perimenopause on top of it added a whole new layer . My growth lessons put a 🚀 up my 🍑 to make sure I prevent and preserve and upd my testing. Here’s why . 🤍

I spent years being told my results were fine. But multiple seizures, allergies and sensitivities, gut issues , miscarriages and joint flares, isn’t fine. And now, for someone with polyautoimmunity navigating hormonal transition, I’m standing my ground and claiming prevention. The reference ranges weren’t built with us in mind. That’s the problem. Diagnosis is important but preventative measures is gold!! 🫶

What frustrated me most was how long I was given partial information. Serum iron without ferritin. TSH without antibodies. A number in range with no context for what optimal actually looks like for my body specifically. The full panel changed everything I thought I knew about my own baseline. This was only through Functional testing and I finally had control of my life and above all the correct diagnosis’s. This is what I love the most when supporting my amazing clients 🫶🫶🫶

I had no idea my cortisol rhythm was dysregulated until I ran a DUTCH or HUMAP. On paper my hormones looked manageable. But how I was metabolising oestrogen, when my cortisol was spiking and crashing, the downstream effect on my immune system, none of that showed up in a standard blood draw. That’s the gap I filled when I knew. Lifestyle and nutrition is now supported around my rhythm and it’s bloody EMPOWERING 🙌🙌

The gut-hormone connection is the piece I wish someone had explained to me years earlier. I was managing my autoimmunity, gut and my hormones as separate problems for far too long. They were never separate. The same dysbiosis driving my gut symptoms was directly affecting how I was clearing oestrogen. And the glucuronidation piece that was the missing link for why things kept recirculating rather than resolving. But it’s didn’t just stop there. The next slide blew my mind

This one changed my clinical approach entirely, not just for myself but for how I work with clien
