After surgery for a vestibular schwannoma (also known as an acoustic neuroma), many people find that hearing wasn't the only thing affected. Balance difficulties and ongoing dizziness are a common but often overlooked side effect, one that can make everyday life feel unsteady in ways that are hard to put into words.

In our latest blog, our Vestibular Specialist Shreya shares Abbie's story: how she went from finding it hard to walk through busy places or turn her head quickly, to rebuilding her confidence through a personalised vestibular rehabilitation programme.

If balance problems or dizziness are affecting your daily life after surgery, or for any other reason, you don't have to just live with it. Read Abbie's story and find out how vestibular rehabilitation works. https://angliearhearing.co.uk/advice/recovering-balance-after-acoustic-neuroma-surgery-a-vestibular-rehabilitation-case-study

We also offer a Free 15-Minute Vestibular and Balance Health Check if you'd like to talk it through with our team first.

Did you know a modern rechargeable hearing aid can process around 700 million calculations every second? That's more than the computers that once guided rockets to the moon.

It's one of the reasons rechargeable hearing aids have become the preferred choice for so many wearers. A single overnight charge gives you a full day of use, there's no fumbling with fiddly batteries, and the extra processing power means clearer sound and better performance in noisy places. There's an environmental upside too: switching to rechargeable cuts a hearing aid's environmental footprint by around 65%.

We've put together a full guide covering how rechargeable hearing aids work, how they compare to battery-powered models, and how you can try one for yourself.

Curious whether rechargeable might suit you? We offer a 30-day, no-obligation trial, plus a FREE Hearing Screening and FREE Ear Health Check if you'd like to start with a broader picture of your hearing health. Call us on 01223 661399 or book online.

Noticed stairs feel less sure-footed than they used to, or that standing up quickly leaves you briefly unsteady? These changes are more common than people think, and there are well-understood reasons behind them.

The vestibular system in your inner ear constantly tracks your head's position and reports back to the brain. With age, those signals lose some precision, and the brain takes a little longer to correct when you stumble. Small balance challenges become more noticeable as a result.

The good news is that vestibular rehabilitation can help. Targeted exercises retrain the brain to communicate better with the inner ear, eyes and muscles, and many people feel steadier and more confident afterwards.

Read our full guide to balance changes with age on our website:https://angliearhearing.co.uk/advice/why-does-balance-get-worse-with-age

If balance changes are affecting your confidence, Shreya, our Vestibular Specialist, offers a Free 15-minute Vestibular and Balance Health Check as a no-pressure first step, in person, by phone, or on video call.

Have you ever rolled over in bed and felt the room spin? Or noticed a wave of dizziness when you look up quickly?

The cause could be something surprisingly small.

Inside your inner ear are tiny crystals that help you balance. Most of the time you'd never know they were there, but when they shift out of place, they can cause sudden, intense dizziness. This condition is called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, or BPPV, and it's one of the most common causes of vertigo in adults.

The good news is that it's very treatable, usually with a guided technique called the Epley Manoeuvre. No medication, no surgery, and many people notice improvement almost immediately.

We've written a full guide explaining what these crystals are, what goes wrong, and how treatment works. Read it on our website: https://angliearhearing.co.uk/advice/crystals-in-your-ears

If dizziness or unsteadiness is something you've been living with, you don't have to keep putting up with it.

Teddy has some thoughts on ears this summer, and honestly, he's got a point.

When something's bothering a dog's ear, they let you know straight away. Head shaking, scratching, that telltale tilt. Nobody ignores it. But humans? We'll happily walk around for weeks with a blocked, itchy or muffled ear and just hope it sorts itself out.

Summer makes this more likely too. Swimming, heat softening earwax, holidays throwing your routine off, it all adds up. Most of it clears on its own, but if it doesn't, it's worth getting checked rather than waiting until autumn.

Teddy (Pawdiologist, Golden Retriever) explains it all far better than we can. Read his latest advice column, and if your ears have been feeling off since your last swim, book a FREE Ear Health Check with us before summer's out.

Ever wondered why hearing aids can range so widely in price? It usually comes down to technology level, not size or appearance.

Think of it a bit like choosing a car. Two models might look almost identical from the outside, but what's under the bonnet tells a very different story. Hearing aids work the same way. Essential, Advanced, and Premium levels all amplify sound, but they differ in how well they handle background noise, adjust automatically to changing environments, and process music.

The right level for you depends on your lifestyle rather than the severity of your hearing loss alone, and the best way to find out what actually works is to try it in real life, not on a specification sheet.

We've written a full guide breaking down what each technology level means in practice and how to work out which one suits you.

Making the most of the summer sunshine?

Your hearing aids need a little extra care too. Heat, humidity, sweat and sand are the four things most likely to cause problems for your devices, but the good news is that all of them are easy to manage once you know what to watch for.

Our audiologist Sanjam shares six practical tips to keep your hearing aids performing well through the warmer months, from wiping them dry each evening to keeping them well away from hot cars and direct sunlight. Sunscreen and sand are worth thinking about too if you're heading to the beach.

We've put together a full guide covering all six tips, plus what to do if your hearing aids aren't performing as they should. Read it on our website: https://angliearhearing.co.uk/advice/how-to-look-after-your-hearing-aids-in-summer.

If your hearing aids need a check-up, our HearCare Assist team can help with cleaning, troubleshooting and more, no appointment needed. Or book a FREE Ear Health Check for a more thorough look.
