We hosted our Heathlands House Care Home Community Fun Day on saturday at Cherry Hinton recreational ground and albeit the weather let us down we still had a great fun day.
We had music, face painting, stall holders, childrens activities and a football workshop.
Our amazing chef Richard and his 2 helpers Kiera and Coby did a great job feeding everyone with the lovely barbeque.Thankyou all the brilliant team at Heathlands for your hard work in putting this event on too.
Thank you to all of our home suppliers and local businesses for supporting us to put the event on with refreshments, food, and tombola prizes it means a lot to us all.The tombola raised money for one of our residents, Peter's chosen charity CBM (Christian Blind Mission) who help people all over the world. Gill his wife hosted a stand and we presented her with the proceeds at the end of the day.
Lastly we want to thank Steph the neighbourhood manager at Cambridge County Council and her colleagues for their help before and on the day and the local community who came along to enjoy the day.

Our lovely resident Ruth was asked if she had a wish we may be able to make happen and she said she would love to go back to see her childhood family home Hamilton House where she lived as a girl in Buckingham.
Her father was a GP and had his practice there in the house as they used to do in those days. The house was very large and is now a Care Home called "Hamilton House" keeping the original name. Her father built a bungalow “Little Hamilton”, in what was their veg patch as a smaller property for their latter years after the big house was sold to developers for a care home and it is still there.

She had a tour of the big house which still has many of the old features she remembered so well including the stained glass windows.

She also managed to find the graves of her parents and both her grandmothers while she was visiting in the local cemetery. Her paternal grandmother, Alice Maud, was a concert violinist in the Prussian court of the last Kaiser, Wilhelm III. She married an Italian doctor Harold Ceresfo and they moved to New York in the early 1900s. So Ruth has German/Italian heritage, with her father being born in upstate New York!.
She was born in Cambridge and her father moved to Buckingham for his work she enjoyed many happy years there with her brother racing their bicycles up and down Stowe Avenue leading up to the house.
It brought back lots of lovely memories for her and her daughter who accompanied her on the day.
