Mental Health Bus International Projects

Mental Health Bus International Projects Specialist outreach mental health services for vulnerable and hard to reach children in the UK and other developed or developing countries.

Mental Health Bus International Projects (MHB IP) offers specialist outreach mental health service development and/or provision for hard to reach children in deprived areas of the UK and other developed and developing countries. MHB IP constitutes the outreach division of CINAPS Ltd (Cambridge Independent Neuroscience and Psychiatry Services) and has as primary goal service development and provisi

on for vulnerable and hard to reach children in high risk and clinically challenging settings. CINAPS Ltd was founded by Dr JN Rundle MBChB MRCPsych and Dr CR Venter MBChB MRCPsych, Consultants in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, in February 2009. CINAPS provides private and pro bono consultation in the UK as well as services to the NHS and other national and international organisations. CINAPS funds pro bono work through private work and NHS consultations. Please visit www.cinaps.co.uk for more information on our services in the UK and abroad. Company Registration Number 6937186. MHB IP is entirely dependent on private and corporate funding, donations and sponsorship in order to not increase strain on limited resources within existing local community services. Our Directors, Dr CR Venter and Dr JN Rundle, are currently our main donors. Please see www.mentalhealthbus.co.uk for our contact details, for more information on our outreach work, on how you can support this project or to donate funds directly. Please contact us at [email protected] for more information. The content of our websites and social media accounts is intended for general information purposes only. These pages do not constitute any form of consultative or diagnostic tool or process, and is no substitute for assessment by a medical doctor. The assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health or general health difficulties, particularly in children, is a complex and specialised process and should only be undertaken by qualified mental health or medical professionals with appropriate training and sufficient experience. If you are concerned about a child or individual, please seek appropriate advice, without delay, from your General Practitioner or Accident and Emergency Department.

Alternative accommodation at sea - see previous link and last posts regarding details - this was taken a few metres from the land.

Ships are wonderful in every way, extraordinary experiences, and the colours in the Pacific incredible, but every area has its strengths.

Ships teach us how fragile we are, and that it takes a team, many factors, be it the wind and tides, if you are solo, to work with you, in some way - to move forward, or not sink. Ships teaches us to work with nature, to see nature as our saving force, not working against us, if we know how to speak and interact with nature, and how to work with nature, and to respect nature as step 1.

Ships also teaches us to stand strong, be flexible and that giving up is not an option.

This venture will benefit your health, your quality of life, life experiences, mental health, enlarge your life, see the world from the comfort of your sofa if you choose, with your cat and own car, with a small clinic and ship's doctor and nurses .... and also benefit countries around the world, where input has been requested for child psychiatrists to assist with national bio-psycho-social systemic risk matters, in confidence, however this will not be a theme on the ship in any way.

Come for a short trip, or stay a few months, or make it your permanent residence - this is our plan.

We hope you join us on this venture.

We are only contactable via email, [email protected] and we receive 100s of emails per day, so please enter "Ship" or "Boat" in the Subject line.

See you on the water .... hopefully first stop Barcelona, and first lengthy stop Bora Bora, if all goes to plan.

We have offered our input to governments and academic departments free of charge or pro bono since 2012, funded by ourselves, CINAPS, but we have been informed by our legal and finance colleagues that this venture and most going forward have to be funded or jointly funded, so investors or partners will be met with.

We have usually turned away investors (in the UK and abroad, mostly Canada and India), but this was due to how this complicated matters in terms of clinical policies, and we trust we can achieve consistently good outcomes along with investors if the 'goal' pathways are clear - two goals. Safety always first, for all parties involved. This can be discussed with investors or interested parties.

We have been asked to repeat to certain international organisations, that if psychiatrists ever needed, contact [email protected] - most have 30 years experience in Medicine, Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry, Forensic Psychology or Psychiatry and/or profiling - often pro bono assessments of risk, capacity, development, medical and mental health problems.

Most of our more or less 500 colleagues, 30 countries, agree that we need a Global Health Plan if another international health crisis occurs. Naturally the type of crisis will dictate much, but urgent reviews required to avoid taking steps, not evidence-based, that increases risk for communities and children. We need to agree 'no' to certain items in advance, and we must have a group of transparent (no conflict of interest) medical doctors with bio-psycho-social systemic risk assessment and management experience, at least 20-30 years, in place, now.

More information below.

Thank you for your input and efforts to reduce risk.

Neurodevelopmental or Mental Illness Assessments and Salsa

We have had increased referrals regarding assessment for neurodevelopmental problems, and mental illness, from age 3 to 55 (yes a lot of doctors are referred to us as patients) that we thought we would arrange groups to start with - different age groups - e.g. one group for university students, and one group for different school age (3 groups or so) - so 4 in total, perhaps even 5 if we include adults above 30.

Child Psychiatrists in the UK are trained, experienced and registered to work with adults of all ages and contexts, but Psychiatrists who do not have CCTs in Child Psychiatry cannot take on permanent roles in Child Psychiatry (since 2008). This has made it confusing to many people, families and nations.

Rather than sitting in a group and doing 'talking' bits, we thought this group could meet for 45-60 minutes and learn basic salsa (so have fun and be challenged just a little bit) - a very good teacher with experience working with kids - Sacha - easy to find him online. We will observe and identify concerns, so children will not feel stressed or pressured, but they will have fun. We will also make it clear why we are there, but in a child or adult friendly way - so no misleading and no stress. Anything new brings with it some healthy stress though - it is the starting point of development, and this context will be wonderful for Child Psychiatrists to observe children.

Groups will be small, so 10 or 15.

After this session, which will function as a screen, if there are any serious mental illness or neurodevelopmental problems - it will often be very clear - and a thorough initial assessment can follow.

If you are interested in this, or to work with us, or to help - let us know. Often just observing people, how they move, facial expressions, timing, non-verbal and verbal communication, behaviour, their thoughts, their feelings expressed in various ways etc - it says it all, after 30 years of assessments, it is often not challenging to identify serious concerns in this context and with this audience. Psychiatrists are by definition profilers to an extent, because they have to be able to rule out attachment problems, temperament styles and personality styles or OCD (ID and understand ideas, intent or plans) - to know what is 'personality' or 'psychopathy' or 'behaviour due to shyness, anxiety, anger or sadness' versus mental illness or developmental problems including learning problems.

We are available to do this, whilst we wait for funding in the EU (3 projects), and likely multi-national work in the Pacific with health ministries and the French Ministry.

The Cambridge City Council supported this plan with Looked After Kids, and Social Care did not disagree, but said they need to find their feet first (new management), so we are giving them time.

The work in the EU and Pacific is very high risk so we can't take volunteers from the UK, only if experience with high risk in high risk worlds. So contact us if you fit this profile.

Please feel free to spread the word of our proposal.

We have liaised with the University of Cambridge and private schools (especially where we get the most referrals from, because we do not engage in marketing any longer, think we discontinued in 2015).

Mo'orea - Moutains of Insight.

Do one thing every day that scares you ....
(within reason - educate, liaise if need be with experts, plan and prep) - use your mind, gut, heart, body....

An example would be 'invite a new friend for a drink, tea, coffee etc' or 'start dancing' ... salsa in Cambridge with Sacha!

For one of the most memorable songs when we were younger ....

Arriving in Mo’orea, the island closest to Papeete surrounded by mountains, dancing and singing. The village comes out to greet you with song and dancing, traditional clothing and accessories…

- After visiting the farms - best in the world - we were taken to a small atoll and served the best fish caught and prepared by the men. This we will never forget.
