I have been asked to share this to the Group. I offer no recommendation one way or the other as I have no personal knowledge of the author or the event, but it looks as if it might be of interest and relevance to some members. BobW.

MATT is coming to Peterborough β€” one night only 🎭

I'm Peter, a performer bringing my mental health theatre show MATT to the Key Theatre on 9 October. It's based on my own story β€” depression, addiction, and finding a way back β€” and it's already had audiences connecting, talking to each other afterwards. Stephen Fry has even backed it.

Rethink Carer Support – Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

VACANCY - CO- ORDINATOR (voluntary role)
VACANCIES - Committee Members (Voluntary roles)

Jonathan Wells is standing down from the position of group co-ordinator this year and your committee is now seeking both new members and also a new co-ordinator. These are voluntary roles and would suit anyone who is passionate about supporting the families of people with mental ill health.

We believe this is a good time to adjust how we operate – reducing the responsibilities of the co-ordinator by bringing in new people with new ideas to our committee.

The co-ordinator will:
- Act as a leader and figurehead for the group
- Ensure that the key aspects of our support to carers of mental health conditions continue to work well
- Ensure that we have a voice on behalf of mental health carers at a strategic level across our area
- Maintain good working relationships with national Rethink Mental Illness
The role can really make a difference to carers’ lives and is very fulfilling!

Expenses and payment for attendance at meetings etc. are available.

If you are interested in knowing more about these vacancies please contact Jonathan Wells by email [email protected] - ideally before 21st August 2026.

It is always welcome to see MH support being brought closer to the people who need it... BUT it is unclear which places across England will benefit,. Crucially, is the funding sufficient and where will the skilled staff come from? MH services are already desparately short-staffed, with many vacancies. Too many.

Government plans network of nearly 200 specialist services to help those facing mental health crises.

Concert
On 20th June we had a very successful Saturday afternoon concert at Histon Methodist Church. This was the idea of three brilliant musicians who are also members of Rethink Carer Support.
Around 25 of us attended for free and enjoyed an afternoon of music with lots of familiar old tunes and some Gibert and Sullivan. We all joined in when we could – especially when we just had to bang a drum!
It was really good that for a few hours we didn’t have to think of ourselves as carer or cared for. Some whole families attended and that was just fine. People can have a lot going on in their lives – but we were reminded that day that we have plenty of creativity – especially musical – and that it is good to share our skills and give pleasure to others.
Big thanks are due to Matthew, Kathryn and Susan on vocals and with various instruments including piano and keyboards, violin, accordion, and tuba (?), not only for their skills but for having the idea in the first place. Jonathan Wells.
