Denver’s story 💙

“Talk to someone. You don’t have to go through it on your own.”

For Denver, talking about grief, depression and su***de is an important part of breaking down the stigma that can stop people from reaching out for support.

Through his story, Denver is also shining a light on the positive impact of Fishing Buddies, a community group supporting men’s mental health through friendship, connection and time spent together.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day. It takes place globally each year to raise awareness of su***de, reduce stigma, and encourage action on su***de prevention.

STOP Su***de is an award-winning su***de prevention campaign that seeks to empower communities and individuals across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to help stop su***des by being alert to the warning signs, asking directly about su***de and helping those who are feeling suicidal to stay safe.

It is led by Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind (CPSL Mind) and supported by local NHS and Public Health teams.

The campaign message is: One conversation can save a life. Talking openly, asking someone how they are and letting them know they’re not alone can make all the difference.

⚠️Trigger warning - this video mentions su***de

STOP Su***de, a su***de prevention campaign led by CPSL Mind and supported by local NHS and Public Health teams, is encouraging people to help change the way su***de is talked about by learning how to recognise when someone may be struggling and having open, supportive conversations.

Dee, who lives in St Neots in Cambridgeshire, reflects on a challenging period in her life when she became isolated from her family and faced pressures with her businesses back home in the Philippines.

In the campaign video, Dee says, “When you go through something so dark and so isolating, there is no hope. I was on a mission to make sure that someone was going to look after my daughter. One of my oldest childhood best friends is a doctor; I said to her: ‘If something is to happen me, please don’t resuscitate.’ I felt like there was no other solution, I was so ready to end it all.”

Dee found the strength and courage to speak up about her challenges and spoke to a friend’s father.

Thank you Dee for sharing your story on this important campaign day 💙

Ashley Bunn, Chief Executive of CPSL Mind said, “On World Su***de Prevention Day, and every day, we must continue to raise awareness about su***de and support people to have open and supportive conversations. Our new strategy outlines how too many people still only reach support at the point of crisis, we will continue to work tirelessly to improve access to timely and accessible support in the community, ensuring people access the right support at the right time for them.”

There’s so much we can achieve when charities and community organisations work together to support better mental health. 💙

Last week, we were delighted to attend the Sew Positive AGM and celebrate the incredible achievements of this wonderful community project.

It was inspiring to hear stories of connection, friendship and wellbeing, and to see the positive impact Sew Positive continues to have within the community.

Through funding from our Good Life Fund, we’re proud to support Sew Positive and our continued partnership through the Sewcialise Good Mood Cafe, bringing people together through creativity, community and connection.

Amelia da Silva, our Senior Manager for Community Mental Health and Wellbeing, said:

“The evening was a great celebration of the growth of Sew Positive and recognition of all those involved who have contributed to make this possible.”

We’re proud to work alongside Sew Positive and look forward to continuing our partnership. By working together, we can help create more opportunities for people to connect, feel supported and look after their mental health.

Seamus is getting ready for Walkies for Wellbeing event! 🐾💙

Our Fundraising and Events Coordinator Debbie’s four-legged sidekick will be joining us at Ferry Meadows on Sunday 20th September, and he’s hoping to see plenty of other waggy tails there too! 🐶

For Debbie, those daily walks with Seamus are about much more than getting out and about:
“Daily walks with Seamus really help with my mental health and wellbeing. Dogs are great for living in the moment and encouraging us to be mindful. Seamus gives me a purpose to walk every day and we both really enjoy it.”

Why not join Seamus and Debbie for a Sunday morning walk, enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings, and help raise vital funds for local mental health support?

A little bit of kindness landed through our letterbox this week 💌

And what better way to head into the weekend than with a little Friday feel-good moment?

This beautiful handmade card arrived at our office with the lovely message, “wishing everyone health and happiness” and it put a big smile on our faces. 😊

To whoever took the time to make and send it to us, thank you so much. Your thoughtful gesture really did make our day!

It’s a lovely reminder that small acts of kindness can have a big impact. A kind word, a thoughtful message or simply letting someone know you’re thinking of them can brighten their day more than you might realise.

Spreading positivity and supporting people’s wellbeing is at the heart of what we do, so receiving a message wishing us health and happiness felt particularly special. 💙

So, this Friday, why not pass a little kindness on? You never know whose day you might make. ✨
