Protected Learning Time Sessions 2025/26 - Closure Today
To ensure our team have the most up to date skills the local commissioners have given all Cambridgeshire Practices the opportunity to close once a month to ensure our staff have access to continual development. Monkfield Medical Practice will therefore be closed from 2pm (130 phones to process call waiting).
During this time, please seek support by calling nhs 111 or visit their website for further advice and information or contact your local community pharmacist.
If you during this time you have a life threatening emergency such as:
loss of consciousness
a sudden confused state
fits that are not stopping
chest pain
breathing difficulties
severe bleeding that cannot be stopped
severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
severe burns or scalds
someone has seriously injured themselves or taken an overdose

Why is the flu vaccine important?

Every winter, flu places significant pressure on the NHS. For many people it causes several days of unpleasant symptoms, but for those at higher risk it can result in severe complications such as pneumonia, worsening of existing health conditions and, in some cases, hospitalisation. The flu vaccine helps reduce your risk of becoming seriously unwell and also helps prevent the spread of flu to family members, friends and others in the community.

Children are particularly effective at spreading flu, even when their symptoms appear mild. Vaccinating children not only helps protect them but also helps protect grandparents, babies and others who may be more vulnerable to serious illness

In line with the NHS national flu immunisation programme:

Eligible at-risk children and other eligible child groups will be invited from 1 September 2026.

Eligible adults including housebound whom we will contact direct will be invited from 1 October 2026.

For patients who are eligible for both vaccinations, we will aim to offer the flu and COVID-19 vaccines together where possible, making it easier and more convenient to stay protected this winter.

Look out for your invitation - We will be sending invitations to eligible patients shortly. These may be sent by text message, the NHS App, letter or other communication channels. Please keep an eye out for your invitation and visit the flu vaccination section of our website for the latest information on clinics, eligibility and booking arrangements. Keep an eye out for dates on our website.

Please choose your GP practice - Each year, GP practices order vaccines specifically for their registered patients well in advance of the flu season. We have carefully planned and ordered the appropriate vaccines for our eligible patients and will be holding stock ready for those invited.

Farewell and Best Wishes to Practice Nurse Laura Stampe

The Partners of MMP share with our patients that Laura, one of our valued Practice Nurses, will be leaving Monkfield Medical Practice in early September.

Laura has been part of our practice team for over 16 years, and during that time has shown remarkable dedication to both her patients and colleagues. Many of you will know Laura well from your appointments and will recognise her friendly, caring, and professional approach.

Her journey within the practice has been particularly special. Laura began her career here as a Health Care Assistant, before progressing through the degree apprenticeship scheme to qualify as a Practice Nurse. It has been truly lovely to see Laura grow and develop throughout her career, and many of us have also had the privilege of seeing and hearing about her children growing and achieving in their own lives alongside her.

Laura has made the decision to move on to a new surgery where she can continue to develop her skills and expertise, and we fully support her in this next step of her career.

While we are naturally very sorry to see her go, we are incredibly grateful for the years of hard work, compassion, and continuity of care she has provided to our patients and the local community.

On behalf of everyone at Monkfield Medical Practice, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Laura and wish her every success and happiness in her future role.

MMP art group provides an opportunity to have a go at lots of different types of arts and crafts in a friendly and welcoming setting. The group meets fortnightly on a Wednesday afternoon from 2.00p.m – 4.00 p.m. MMP Training Room

Members share and learn new skills and chat over a cup of tea. Refreshments and craft materials are free of charge.

Members have found that this friendly group is a great way to boost your wellbeing – you can learn new skills, share your own interests, meet new friends and it provides a sense of purpose and enjoyment. We have enjoyed crochet, decoupage and mirror painting to name a few skills so far.

Today Monday 10th August we have a number clinical unplanned absences, resulting in a loss off over 70 appointments.

We will do our best to triage and prioritise urgent acute needs for seeing today.

We ask you don’t request to be seen if you are able to speak with a community pharmacist and manage your condition through self-care using NHS 111 website advice or wait.
