Cambridge Global Health Partnerships (CGHP) facilitates safe, ethical and effective health partnerships between Cambridge and the East of England and low- and middle-income countries to tackle some of the biggest health issues of our time. The aim of Cambridge Global Health Partnerships is to support positive, sustainable change in global health through facilitating international partnerships with hospitals and health organisations in low and middle income countries. To achieve our aim we support staff and students of Cambridge University Hospitals and the local health community to make practical contributions to global health by volunteering.

Last week, we were delighted to hold the CGHP East of England Annual Learning Event bringing together our 2026 and 2027 Global Health Fellows.

Now in its sixth year, this Global Health Fellowship, delivered in partnership between NHS England East of England and Cambridge Global Health Partnerships (CGHP), offers senior resident doctors from across the region the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and development opportunities in global health partnership working. The learning event provides a valuable opportunity for fellows to connect with one another, explore key global health themes, share experiences, and learn more about the CGHP EoE Global Health Fellowship – which is an unique offering. We are thankful to Bill Irish, Postgraduate Dean of Medicine, University of Cambridge; Regional Postgraduate Dean, NHS East of England, for sharing an inspiring keynote and Charlotte Patient, MD FRCOG, Consultant Obstetrician CUHFT, Associate Postgraduate Dean NHSE-EOE, Affiliated Assistant Professor, University of Cambridge, for her dedication and commitment to this programme, and to all the Supervisors who support the fellows throughout the fellowship.

Key themes that emerged:
🤝 The importance of partnership and collaborative working in addressing complex global health challenges
🌍 Approaching global health with curiosity, humility and a willingness to learn across different cultures, contexts and healthcare systems
📈 Recognising that the fellowship is just the beginning, with many opportunities to remain engaged in global health and health partnership work long after the fellowship ends

We are delighted to welcome Juliet Boahin and Rose Agyekum, senior nurses from the Department of Surgery at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana, to the UK as part of the IMPERATIVES (Improving Perioperative, Trauma & Interventional Vascular Emergency Systems) Health Partnership.

Building on a multidisciplinary team visit from the UK to Ghana earlier this year, Juliet and Rose are spending time with colleagues at Addenbrooke's Hospital and Lister Hospital, observing clinical practice, exchanging knowledge, and exploring ways to strengthen perioperative, trauma and vascular care.

Health partnerships are built on relationships, shared learning and the exchange of ideas. It has been wonderful to see teams on both sides making the most of this opportunity to learn from one another. We are grateful to the Eldryd Parry Fellowship from Global Health Partnership (formerly THET) for helping make this visit possible.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to making the visit such a success.

Highlights from the visit:
✅ Meeting colleagues at the Vascular Studies Unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital
✅Spending time in operating theatres with the vascular surgery team
✅ Visiting vascular outpatient clinics and inpatient wards
✅Observing practice in the vascular hybrid theatre and ICU at Lister Hospital
✅ Enjoying downtime exploring Cambridge's iconic colleges and history

We’re delighted to welcome Caesar Atuire as a keynote speaker at the .

Caesar is a leading philosopher and health ethicist from Ghana, who is currently serving as the Co-Director of Oxford Global Health and Ethics and Governance Lead for the MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the University of Oxford. Caesar also holds an Adjunct Professorship of Philosophy at the University of Ghana.

Drawing on his extensive global leadership—including roles with the WHO’s COVID-19 Ethics & Governance Working Group, the Global Forum for Bioethics in Research, and the Africa CDC—Caesar will share invaluable insights on dismantling systemic inequities in global health.

Jim Campbell is the Professor of Practice, Health Workforce, at King's College London and brings exceptional global expertise in population health, health systems and health workforce development. His distinguished career spans senior leadership and advisory roles with the World Health Organisation, the Global Health Workforce Alliance and the UK Department for International Development.
