This role will be leading the imaging service within the QVSH, responsible for developing and supporting a high standard of clinical service provision in the Imaging Team, while contributing to the clinical teaching of undergraduate veterinary students and postgraduate Clinical Training Scholars.

We are also looking for a Head Radiographer to join the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital. This role will provide operational leadership for the Diagnostic Imaging Team supporting the Hospital's clinical, teaching and research activities.

Our fabulous vets from The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital, QVSH gave us their Top 5 Tips to keep your dog well in a heatwave!

🐾 If in doubt, don’t go out
Too hot for a walk? Skip it. No dog ever died from missing one walk – but dogs can die from heatstroke.

🐕 Know your dog’s limits
Flat-faced breeds (Pugs, Frenchies) and big fluffy ones (Newfoundlands, St Bernards) struggle more in heat.
Keep them extra cool. ❄️

🏠 Keep your home cool
Avoid hot spots like conservatories. Let your dog chill in the coolest areas of your home and keep fresh water nearby. 💧

😰 Know the signs of heatstroke
Panting, confusion, distress? Act fast! Cool them with water fast and call your vet immediately. 📞

🤔 Don’t trust everything online
Seen conflicting advice? Always check with your vet – they’re the best source of guidance. ✅

We’re delighted to welcome Barbora Mala to the University of Cambridge Vet School and our Small Animal Surgery Team at The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital, QVSH.

Originally from the Czech Republic, Barbora has always had a passion for animals and science. Growing up, her home was filled with an impressive menagerie of pets – from cats and dogs to snakes, parrots, rabbits, rats and even a tortoise! 🐶🐱🐍

After graduating as a veterinary surgeon in 2019, Barbora moved to the UK and developed a particular passion for small animal surgery, drawn to the precision, planning and problem-solving it involves.

Now in Cambridge, she’s looking forward not only to caring for patients but also to teaching and mentoring veterinary students, interns and residents.

🐰 It’s Rabbit Awareness Week - the perfect time to shine a spotlight on our long-eared companions.

With temperatures soaring this week, rabbits are at increased risk of heatstroke, so it’s important to help keep them cool and comfortable. ☀️

Our veterinary professionals at The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital, QVSH have shared five top tips to help keep your rabbits safe, cool and comfortable during the heatwave:

☂️ Keep them in the shade
Move hutches and runs out of direct sunlight and keep indoor blinds or curtains closed during the hottest parts of the day.

❄️ Provide cool places to rest
Freeze water bottles, wrap them in a towel, and place them in their enclosure for rabbits to lie against.

💧 Ensure plenty of fresh water
Refill water bowls and bottles regularly with cool, fresh water. Avoid adding ice, as very cold water can upset their system.

🌬️ Use safe cooling methods
Battery-operated fans can help circulate air when aimed towards frozen bottles.

🚨 Know the signs of heatstroke
Watch for panting, rapid breathing, drooling, weakness, confusion, or lying stretched out and unresponsive. If you notice these signs, move your rabbit to a cool area, dampen their ears and feet with cool (not cold) water, and contact your vet straight away.

The single most important thing? Keep rabbits out of direct sun and ensure they always have access to shade and water throughout the day. 🐇❤️
