"Girls and women with ADHD are more likely than boys and men to develop compensatory behaviors that mask ADHD, which helps to explain why males are more likely than females to receive a diagnosis."

It's also the reason ADHD symptoms can appear 'worse' once someone recognises their ADHD behaviour through self or formal diagnosis. It is simply the mask falling away and the person conducting themselves in a way that is more authentic and finally accepting those traits as part of their character.

Hello and a very warm welcome from Hey Squirrel!

There are rapidly increasing numbers of women who have sought diagnosis for ADHD over the last few years, mainly since the pandemic. While there are many resources and groups for connecting online to discuss topics, there seems to be a lack of friendship and close community.

The beginning of Hey Squirrel seeks to change that for Cannock Chase and the surrounding areas by creating a peer support network where through events, meets and friendship we can navigate life beyond our diagnosis and help others who are just starting out.

This is our main page where content can be shared publicly. Details of meets and events and personal posts will be in our private group.

In true ADHD style this has been a long time in the making ✨ But it's finally time to stop procrastinating and let it fly!
