There is a real psychological cost to constantly exposing ourselves to distressing images and frightening news.
I learnt this lesson at an early age after watching a news report regarding a terrorist attack in the 1980s.

The truth is, our brains are simply not designed to absorb an endless stream of war, violence, tragedy and threat.
At some point being informed can become hypervigilance, constantly checking, scrolling and looking for the next frightening update.

Boundaries matter.
You don't need to watch every video or read every breaking news story. Stepping away from social media and the news when it becomes overwhelming isn't ignorance or indifference.
It's self-care.
Put the phone down.
Go outside.
Talk to someone.
Do something ordinary.
Remind yourself that the frightening world on your screen is not necessarily the world immediately around you.
You can care deeply about what is happening without immersing yourself in it.

🔊 What Does Tinnitus Really Sound Like?
Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no external source is present. The experience is different for everyone—some hear soft noises, while others notice loud or constant sounds that can interfere with daily life, sleep, and concentration. Although tinnitus is not a disease itself, it can be a symptom of an underlying hearing or health condition.

🎧 Common Sounds People Describe
🔔 Ringing, like a bell
🐝 Buzzing, similar to a bee
🐍 Hissing or sizzling
🌬️ Whooshing or rushing wind
⏰ Clicking or ticking sounds
🦁 Roaring or humming noises
⚡ High-pitched whistling
📻 Continuous or pulsing tones
⚠️ Possible Causes
Age-related hearing loss
Exposure to loud noise
Earwax buildup
Ear infections
✨ If tinnitus lasts for several days, affects your hearing, or occurs with dizziness or severe ear pain, consult a healthcare professional. Early evaluation can help identify the cause and guide the most appropriate treatment or management plan. Protecting your hearing today can support better ear health for the future.

I offer one-to-one Tinnitus Advisory Sessions, using evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches to help reduce distress, manage anxiety, and develop practical strategies so tinnitus has less impact on your daily life.
While there is no cure for tinnitus, there are effective ways to change how you respond to it and regain a sense of control.
Online and telephone appointments available.
