Today, for Age Without Limits Day, weโ€™re celebrating the incredible people we support who continue to live with purpose, humour, joy and adventure every single day.

Ageing without limits means challenging ageism and showing that age does not define what is still possible. Every person deserves opportunities for connection, meaning, accomplishment, and joy, no matter their stage of life.

Thank you to our amazing Health & Wellbeing Associates who support people not just to live well at home, but to continue Living Life in Colour ๐ŸŒˆ

Thrive in Action ๐ŸŒˆ

When Betty* mentioned she was thinking about getting a personal alarm, our companion took the time to explore the options with her.

Rather than simply providing information, they worked together to identify what mattered most. Betty wanted something discreet, easy to wear as a watch, and something that would work both at home and when she was out and about.

After researching several providers, they contacted two highly rated companies and discussed the features, benefits and costs of each option. This gave Betty the information she needed to make an informed decision about what would work best for her.

With the research complete, they headed into Maidstone for a day of shopping. Between picking up essentials, browsing the shops and enjoying a coffee and muffin together, the conversation continued naturally, helping Betty feel confident about her decision.

Back at home, Betty decided which option felt right for her. Our companion supported her to complete the purchase and even secured a small discount.

Most importantly, Betty felt reassured that she would have access to help if she ever needed it, both at home and when out in the community.

What might seem like a simple purchase was actually about something much bigger: maintaining confidence, independence and peace of mind.

At Thrive Homecare, we know that attention to the small details can make a big difference to someone's wellbeing and ability to Live Life In Colour ๐ŸŒˆ

๐ŸŒˆ Thrive in Action - this week its all about reminiscing. The great thing about reminiscing is that the conversation can lead anywhere...

"This week, Mary* spent some time in the lounge enjoying an activity centred around conversation, connection and reminiscence.

Together, we explored CONNECT, a programme that uses pictures and prompts to spark memories and meaningful conversation. Mary really engaged with the different topics and clearly enjoyed choosing where the conversation would go next.

One of her favourite topics was places to visit. Mary lit up while talking about Japan, sharing that she had come very close to visiting once and would have loved the opportunity to go. It opened up a lovely conversation around travel, memories and dream destinations.

Another favourite was pizza toppings, which brought plenty of smiles as Mary gave her opinions on which ones she loved and which she definitely did not!

Afterwards, we enjoyed a cup of tea and biscuits while watching an episode of Mr. Bean, one of her favourites, before getting ready for lunch."

The recent storyline on BBC The Archers where Tracy and Anna share the pressures of caring for a parent, captured something many families know, but donโ€™t always talk about.

For adult children, there can be a huge weight of responsibility, often on one person alone. Trying to juggle work, family life and the support of a parent, often while carrying the emotional pressure of wanting to do the right thing.

For parents, there can be a very different feeling. Worrying theyโ€™re becoming a burden. Feeling guilty for needing support. Not wanting to ask for too much from the people around them.

Both experiences can exist at the same time, and both can feel incredibly heavy.

Open, honest conversations can help families understand what everyone is feeling, what support might help, and how responsibility can be shared before things reach burnout or crisis point.

At Thrive Homecare, we see every day that support is never just about one person. It affects the whole family. And often, starting the conversation is the most important first step.

Water Shortages in Kent ๐Ÿ’งโ—

If you or someone you know is vulnerable and needs extra support because of the water issues affecting Kent right now, make sure they are registered on the South East Water Priority Services Register.
๐Ÿ‘‰https://www.southeastwater.co.uk/help/priority-services/

You can also call their Customer Care team on 0333 000 2468. While current supply interruptions are ongoing, people on the Priority Services Register or those needing urgent extra support can also call 0800 952 4000, which is available 24/7.

If youโ€™re checking in on the person you love, a neighbour, or someone in your community today, it may be worth asking:

๐Ÿ’ง Do they have enough drinking water?
๐Ÿ’ง Are they able to make a cup of tea or prepare food?
๐Ÿ’ง Do they need help collecting bottled water?
๐Ÿ’ง Are they keeping cool in the warmer weather?

Many people living with dementia can still make decisions about their care, especially with the right support. Discussing options and preferences early on can help guide care decisions later down the road.

At Thrive, we see every day that with the right support, people can still live with purpose, joy, and moments that matter.
