✨ Little people, big ideas ✨

Today, one of our young helpers joined our team and showed us just how powerful it can be when children are given the chance to take the lead. 💛

Guided by our Family Support Specialist, .c_88 , this young person got involved, shared their ideas, and reminded us that children aren't just part of the support journey, they help shape it too.

When we listen to children, value their voices, and give them opportunities to lead, we build confidence, independence, and a sense of ownership over their own progress and space. 🌱

Thank you to mum for consent to showcase this little superstar.

Supporting families affected by Hoarding💚

Created to enable collaborative and compassionate practice, the Hoarding Assessment Tool in Children’s Homes(H.A.T.C.H) avoids judgement and instead promotes gentle, respectful conversations that guide families toward safer, nurturing spaces for children.

There are still a few spaces left at our free lunch and learn session today at 1pm which is talking all about how the resource can be used in practice🐣

Knowing where items go can make a real difference in helping people feel able to let them go💚

When possessions are reused or re-homed responsibly, clients often feel greater comfort, reduced distress and more confidence during what can be an emotionally difficult process. This sense of purpose and reassurance can support dignity, autonomy and emotional wellbeing throughout hoarding support.

Beyond the individual, a circular economy approach also creates wider benefits by redistributing items to local schools, community groups, charities and projects, extending their usefulness and strengthening community connections, which in turn, also reduces unnecessary waste and supporting more environmentally responsible practice by keeping items in circulation wherever possible.

We can’t wait to share more about this approach with you as we continue working on our wellbeing and sustainability centre♻️💚

What do we actually mean by a trauma-informed approach?

Holistic Hoarding CIC was set up to pave the way for a trauma-informed approach to hoarding to become standard practice, so it’s no surprise that we would place it at the centre when discussing what should be included in 🌟

It’s great to see the term showing up more and more as support for hoarding shifts towards supporting someone with a mental health condition, rather than just trying to clear their home. However, we want to take a moment to reflect on what it actually looks like in practice, as we understand that for busy practitioners with intense caseloads, it can be overwhelming trying to navigate what a truly trauma-informed approach looks like day to day🌿🌱

We are entering on a high after the launch of the Gwent Regional Hoarding Taskforce on Friday 🥳🧡

This multi-agency approach, made up of organisations across health, housing, social care and the third sector, aims to create better support systems for those affected by hoarding.

It was so wonderful to see so many organisations, alongside those with lived experience, coming together to share learning, experiences and ideas on how we can start working together to develop a combined approach.

With the conversation around the urgent need for standardised support guidelines being at the forefront right now, we are really proud to be part of a community that is already working hard to adopt that strategy🌱

Stress Awareness Month is a reminder that stress is deeply embedded in hoarding disorder and should shape how we approach support💚

When stress is already high, the way support is delivered can either help settle it or unintentionally make it worse, which is why trauma-informed practice matters. It keeps the client’s needs, safety and choice at the centre, focuses on reducing threat rather than adding to it, and creates the conditions for better engagement🏡
