The practice no longer prescribes medication to females to delay menstrual periods.

NHS has issued new guidance which means that GPs are no longer advised to routinely prescribe norethisterone or similar medication to delay periods for holidays, travel, or other non-medical reasons.

Patients wishing to use period delay tablets for holidays, weddings, or other events will now need to seek private care.

โ€ข Private Clinics who often provide same-day consultations and prescriptions.
โ€ข Online Doctor Services such as Superdrug Online Doctor and Pharmacy2U can supply norethisterone following an online consultation.

Norethisterone is not appropriate for patients with a history of blood clots, liver disease, or certain other health conditions. Period delay tablets can increase the risk of blood clots. If travelling, especially on long flights this is a particular concern as lack of movement or fluids contribute.

7th - 13th September is Know Your Numbers Week, the UK's biggest blood pressure testing and awareness event focussing on home blood pressure monitoring, as it's the easiest way to find out your blood pressure numbers.

High blood pressure can lead to heart attacks, strokes, and other illnesses. Once you 'Know Your Numbers!' you can get support to bring your blood pressure under control and prevent these diseases.

Around a third of people in the UK have high blood pressure, but most donโ€™t know it. It doesnโ€™t have any symptoms so, the only way to find out is to have a blood pressure check.

Click on the link to visit the "online measuring your blood at home resources hub" to download a range of home blood pressure monitoring resources for this 'Know Your Numbers!' Week and beyond.

Know Your Numbers! Week reaches those who have high blood pressure and donโ€™t know it, so they can get the treatment and support they need to bring it under control.
