Good Afternoon!

Changes to Booking Appointments Using the NHS App:

Please note that, from 1st June 2026, you will no longer be able to request same-day appointments using the NHS App.

If you require a same-day appointment, please telephone the surgery and speak to a member of the Reception Team.

You will still be able to request advanced bookings through the NHS App.

This change has been introduced to ensure that all appointment requests go through a Care Navigation process, in line with Welsh Government recommendations.

The Care Navigation process helps ensure that patients are seen by the most appropriate healthcare professional, which may include a GP, Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurse, or Community Pharmacist.

Good Afternoon!

Patient Notice: Change to Ear Wax Removal Service
For many years, our practice has provided ear syringing for the removal of ear wax. Following updated clinical guidance and best practice recommendations, ear syringing is no longer considered the safest or most effective method of wax removal.
Ear suction (micro suction) is now the preferred method. As this procedure requires specialist equipment and training, it is not a service we are able to provide at our surgery.
We will therefore no longer offer ear syringing.
What to do if you have ear wax problems
In line with guidance across NHS Wales:
β€’ Use olive oil drops or sodium bicarbonate drops for 3–5 days to help soften the wax
β€’ Speak to your local community pharmacist for advice β€” many pharmacies in Wales offer support and guidance for ear wax management
β€’ Access ear wax removal services (micro suction) via local providers. These services may be available privately.
At present, routine ear wax removal is not commissioned as a core GP service under NHS Wales, and many GP practices across Wales have stopped providing ear syringing.
If you experience ear pain, discharge, sudden hearing loss, dizziness, or other concerning symptoms, please contact the surgery for assessment.
Thank you for your understanding.

Good Afternoon!

Hay fever is usually worse between late March and September, especially when it’s warm, humid and windy. This is when the pollen count is at its highest.

The majority of high strength treatments for hay fever are now available to purchase at your local pharmacy. GPs will no longer be able to give routine prescriptions for hay fever treatments.

Please utilise the common ailment scheme or purchase your hay fever medication rather than wait for an appointment to be told you need to go to a pharmacy and pay for the medication. We want to support you to get the right care at the right time.

Requests for hay fever medications will be declined and you will initially be directed to the pharmacy.

Please do not be offended if we refer you to a pharmacy. It is important we do not use appointments for services and medications that are available at your local pharmacy. Where you try pharmacy recommended first line options and these are unsuccessful, please contact the practice via telephone/ NHS app as an appointment may be required with ANP/GP for new medication.

Thanks RPCC

Catch-up clinics are being held for teenagers and young adults who have not had an important meningitis vaccination.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is holding walk-in clinics for young people in Year 9 and up to the age of 25 who have previously missed their MenACWY vaccination appointment.

Walk-in clinics are being held every Saturday (starting March 21) until further notice at the following locations:
- Barry Hospital, Colcot Road, CF62 8YH (9am-4.30pm)
- Maelfa Wellbeing Hub, Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, CF23 9PN (9am-4.30pm)

Young people aged 13-14 (school Year 9) are invited by GPs in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to receive this vaccine as part of their routine schedule but sometimes these appointments can get missed.

The MenACWY vaccine protects against meningococcal disease type A, C, W and Y.

While rare, meningococcal disease can be very serious and require urgent hospital treatment. It can lead to life-changing disabilities such as amputations, hearing loss, brain damage and scars.

If parents of younger children would like information about their meningitis B and pneumococcal vaccination status - both of which are given to children as part of their routine vaccination schedule up to the age of 2 - please call the vaccination service on 02921 841234 (lines open Mon-Fri 9am-4.45pm). You can also book any missed doses with your GP.
