🎈 Up, Up and Away! 🌍

This afternoon, our residents enjoyed an immersive Armchair Travel adventure all about hot air balloons! 🎈

The afternoon got off to a delightfully silly start when residents were invited and escorted to the activity by Phileas Fogg himself, dressed for his Around the World in 80 Days adventure, which got everyone giggling! 🎩

The room was transformed into our very own hot air balloon ready for virtual flight. We explored the fascinating history and engineering of hot air balloons, discovered some fun facts, looked at historical photographs and watched incredible footage — including the world-record balloon journey around the world and spectacular hot air balloon festivals. 🌎

Our residents also shared their own memories of seeing and flying in hot air balloons, creating some lovely conversations and reminiscence.

A wonderful afternoon of learning, memories, laughter and adventure — without ever leaving the care home! ❤️🎈

We've taken to the open oceans of literature, with this weeks new Book Club pick, "the Old Man & the Sea" by the renowned and beloved Ernest Hemingway 🖊️📚. Some of our residents' were familiar with the story and his other work, whilst others discovered this gem for the first time which provided great opportunities for conversation, reminiscence and the chance to dive 🌊in to this classic work of fiction. 🎣

Book Club is always a wonderful opportunity to get together and enjoy familiar classics and discover new favourites, alongside a nice cup of tea or coffee and cake to soak up with the story.📖🐠🐟

Today, our residents escaped to a tropical paradise during our latest Armchair Travel adventure as we explored the world’s incredible rainforests! 🌿🍌

Using woodland-inspired aromas, ambient lighting, lush greenery and tropical décor, we transformed our cinema into an immersive rainforest retreat. We’re incredibly proud of our Head Housekeeper, Sharon, who, alongside her amazing group of friends, “The Breasties,” will be performing a one-night-only choreographed routine to 🎵 This Is Me from The Greatest Showman at The Globe, Talywain, on 31st October to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

Here at the home, we’re doing our bit too! You can support this fantastic cause by purchasing one of our pink ribbon badges for just £2, or by making a donation in the collection box at Reception.

Every donation, big or small, helps make a difference. And if you’d like to cheer Sharon and The Breasties on, why not head to The Globe, Talywain on 31st October for what promises to be a truly unforgettable performance!

The brilliantly vibrant Sabrina Cartlidge visited Ty Llandaff yesterday, with a selection of classically catchy songs to sing for our residents, as well as a veritable zoo of puppets for our residents to give life to! 🎤🐵🎼

Through the positive reminiscence of such songs as Teddy Bear's Picnic and the Bare Necessities being performed, as well as the sensory hand-eye coordination aspect to the puppets, our residents had as fun and engaging show as ever there was! 🎶🧸

Big thanks to Sabrina and her puppet self, alongside everyone who joined in to have a singsong and a go with Kermit!💚🐸

We had a whale of a time during today’s armchair travel adventure! 🐋🌊💙

Our residents were transported beneath the waves in our in-home cinema, where they were welcomed by a beautiful underwater light projection, calming whale sounds, and refreshing blue mocktails. Together, we explored the ocean’s depths and discovered some amazing sea creatures from the comfort of our chairs.

A relaxing afternoon that made quite a splash! 🐠✨

Yesterday we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the wonderful therapy dog Bentley and his lovely owner Kirsty to our home. 🐾💙

Bentley spent time visiting everyone around the home, bringing smiles, cuddles and plenty of wagging tails wherever he went! Residents enjoyed stroking him, giving him treats and chatting with Kirsty about Bentley's adventures. We also carried out bedroom visits, ensuring that everyone who wanted to meet Bentley had the opportunity to spend some special time with him. He even snuggled up on the beds with some of our residents, creating some truly heart warming moments.

The impact of Bentley's visit was remarkable. For some of our residents, particularly those living with dementia, we saw noticeable improvements in their wellbeing. Animal therapy can help to reduce feelings of anxiety, encourage communication, spark cherished memories, promote relaxation and provide comfort through gentle companionship. Even residents who are usually quieter were seen smiling, chatting and engaging during Bentley's visit, reminding us just how powerful these meaningful interactions can be.

A huge thank you to Kirsty and Bentley for bringing so much happiness, comfort and joy to our home today. We can't wait to welcome you both back again soon! ❤️🐶

Nothing beats a classic summer picnic! ☀️🧺

Today we enjoyed a lovely morning in the garden with a delicious picnic full of all our favourite foods (cucumber sandwich anyone?), great music, and plenty of laughter. Residents had lots of fun trying their hand at garden games, including ring toss and croquet, while making the most of the beautiful sunshine.

A big thank you to our kitchen team for helping us put this tasty spread together!
