Tomorrow.

Cardiff City Stadium. Doors open 8am. We’re at Stand 5 all day.

If you’ve been on the fence about coming, here’s the honest version. If you want practical, evidence-based information from doctors who practise medicine rather than wellness clichés, this is a good day to be in the room.

To be clear, anything we discuss at the stand is general information rather than personal medical advice. For anything specific to you, that needs a proper consultation.

Last chance for tickets: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1369821405699. Use Exhibitor50 for 50% off seminars.

See you there.

What underpins good mental health?

That’s what we’re heading to Cardiff to talk about. Two days to go.

At Stand 5 on Friday:
A wellness quiz.
Two doctors, around all day for a chat.
A small gift for anyone who books a test or appointment with us on the day, with a bit of spin-the-wheel fun. (We won’t tell you what’s on the wheel - come find out.)

Cardiff City Stadium, Friday 15 May. 3,000+ delegates, 100 exhibitors, 34 seminars. We’re Stand 5.

Tickets: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1369821405699. Use Exhibitor50 for 50% off seminars.

A note from Vian.

I see a strong link between mental wellbeing and the six pillars of health. They’re all connected and don’t work on their own. What’s happening in your body affects your mind, and what’s happening in your mind affects your body. When one area is ignored, it can start to impact the others. This is why looking after all six pillars of health, even with small steps, can start to make a real difference to how you feel. Good mental health then gives you the drive to get up, enjoy life, and make positive choices each day.

This is why I’m going to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Show on Friday. Stand 5, all day. Come and say hello.

If you can’t make it in person, the conversation is bigger than the event. Book an initial consultation any time at hexagon.health.

What if better mental wellbeing at work wasn’t just the right thing to do, but the biggest performance advantage you have?

Absenteeism from mental health issues costs UK employers billions a year. The real number is probably bigger once you add presenteeism, the days people show up at their desks but aren’t really working.

We’ll be at the Mental Health and Wellbeing Show in Cardiff on Friday 15 May, Stand 5, if you’re an employer or HR lead thinking about this properly rather than box-ticking. Both Kate and Vian hold Diplomas in Occupational Medicine, so come and have a proper conversation.

We’re going to Cardiff.

On Friday 15 May, Kate and Vian will be at the Mental Health and Wellbeing Show at Cardiff City Stadium. Stand 5.

It’s Wales’s biggest mental health event, and we’re going because the way mental wellness is talked about still skews heavily toward reaction rather than prevention. That’s our gig.

If you’re coming, come and find us. Anyone who books a test or appointment with us on the day gets a small gift, with a bit of spin-the-wheel fun.

Tickets: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1369821405699. Use the code Exhibitor50 for 50% off seminars on the day.

Six things that do more for mental wellness than most people realise. There’s a reason we’re called Hexagon Health.

1. Sleep. The single biggest modifiable factor for mood and anxiety.
2. Movement. Not gym-hard, just consistent and daily.
3. Nutrition. Blood sugar stability, omega-3, gut health.
4. Connection. Real-world conversations, not scrolling.
5. Stress load. What you say yes to, and what you don’t.
6. Alcohol. Be sociable, not indulgent.

None of this replaces professional help when you need it. But all of it changes what baseline you’re working from.
If you’re thinking about your own baseline, that’s where we start. Book an initial consultation at hexagon.health

Did you know?
Mounjaro and Wegovy aren’t “diet drugs.” They’re GLP-1 receptor agonists - they work by mimicking a hormone your body naturally produces to regulate appetite.
But they’re not magic. Without medical oversight:
- No blood monitoring for side effects
- No cardiovascular risk checks
- No plateau support
- No exit plan
At Hexagon Health, weight management means proper medical care alongside your medication.

We all tell ourselves stories

One of the hardest parts of this work is not explaining the science.
It is helping people challenge the stories they tell themselves.

We all do it.

“I’m too busy.”
“I deserve it after a hard day”
“I exercise so I can eat what I want"
“It’s only a small thing.”
“It’s just my age.”
“I was just given bad genes.”

Say something often enough and it starts to feel true.

Even when, deep down, you know it is not quite true.

Sometimes my role is not to tell someone something new, but to challenge the narrative they have built around why nothing can change.

Not to shame.
Not to lecture.
But to help them find the point where change is possible.

If someone feels defensive, overwhelmed, or stuck, the answer is rarely more information.

It is to dig deeper and help them rewrite the narrative.

What story do you tell yourself?

Bizarrely, this all started in the pub.

A New Year’s conversation, 18 years ago.
Someone said they were going to floss their teeth every day.

So I did that.

The following year, same person, same pub…
She said she was going to do a triathlon.

So I did that too.

I’m not telling you this because I’m particularly sporty.
I’m really not.

I can’t run very well (and my foot reminds me).
I don’t always enjoy the event itself.
Every year I wonder why I’ve signed up again.

But I still do.
Because signing up gives me:
Structure
Motivation
A reason to start before I feel ready

It gets me into cold water in the spring when I’d rather not.
it gets me back on my bike when the weather improves.
It gets me running (just a few times).

It’s not really about the tiathlon.
It’s about having a goal.

Something that:
Gets you outside
Gets you moving
Connects you with other people
Gives you the buzz of “I’ve done it”
Even if you collapse in a heap at the end.

The day itself?
You’re done and dusted by 8am.
The best bit is breakfast at the Ivy afterwards.

I’m still doing the triathlon.18 years later.

Not because I love it.
But because of what it gives me along the way.

What could get you moving more this summer?
