Do your headaches start in your neck? π€
Around 1 in 2 adults have a headache each year, and one of the most common types we see at our Cardiff clinic is the cervicogenic headache β a headache that actually starts in the neck.
The nerves from the joints and muscles at the top of your neck share a pathway with the nerves of the head and face. So when your neck isn't moving well, you can feel it as pain at the base of your skull, your temple or behind your eye β often on one side, and often worse with certain neck movements or postures.
Common culprits include posture and long hours at a screen, stress, tight neck muscles and old neck injuries like whiplash.
At ADT Chiropractic we assess your neck and upper back to find what's driving your headaches, then restore movement and relax tight muscles. This raises the threshold for a headache, so everyday stress and posture are less likely to trigger one, and many patients find their headaches become less frequent and less intense.
