🏴 LAUGHARNE, WEST WALES ..THE LITTLE TOWN THAT PUT WALES ON THE WORLD MAP 🌊✍️
This morning, I spent time exploring Laugharne , a beautiful little Welsh town packed with history, character and stories.
And so much of its worldwide fame comes down to one man: Dylan Thomas.
Born in Swansea in 1914, Dylan became one of Wales' most celebrated poets and writers. His words travelled across the world, and people still journey thousands of miles, including from America, to visit the places connected to his life and work.
Today, I explored some of that history on my run.
🏰 Laugharne Castle a striking medieval ruin overlooking the town and the water. Centuries of history stand above the estuary, creating one of the most beautiful views in this part of Wales.
🏡 Dylan Thomas's Boathouse his former family home, where he lived from 1949 to 1953. It's now a museum, allowing visitors to discover more about his life, his family and his writing. I've visited before, and it's such a special place, tucked above the water.
✍️ The writing shed a small, unassuming workspace overlooking the Taf estuary, where Dylan wrote some of his work.
🌊 The Taf estuary the changing water, the peaceful shoreline and the views that make Laugharne feel so distinctive. It's easy to understand why this landscape became such an important part of Dylan's story.
❤️ And then, his final resting place.
I visited Dylan Thomas's grave in the churchyard.
A modest, simple grave in a quiet corner of the town.
There's something deeply moving about that.
Dylan died in New York on 9 November 1953, aged just 39, while visiting America. His death was tragic, cutting short the life of a writer whose work had already reached an international audience. He was brought home to Wales and buried in Laugharne.
Think about that for a moment. People travel across oceans to visit this little Welsh town, to see his former home, his writing shed and the places that shaped his life. Yet his final resting place is so humble.
